Hayes Manufacturing is looking for a Buyer at our Fife Lake, MI location. This position requires a blend of skills and experience focused on buying items for all aspects of the corporation and facility functions. You’ll evaluate vendors and authorize purchase orders for goods and services. You’ll fulfill and issue the purchase orders. Familiar with a variety of organization and facility concepts, practices, and procedures. This position relies on experience and judgment to plan and accomplish goals.
What You’ll Do:
- Accurately prepare and confirm purchase orders, forward copies to the supplier and others as required. Maintain all transaction records using material requirements planning (MRP) system and hardcopy as required.
- Fulfill special purchase order needs.
- Prepare and issue purchase orders from various sources: MRP systems, email, spreadsheet/written information, and verbal instructions.
- Handle purchase orders through confirmation, fulfillment, and consumption.
- May source and obtain price quotations from suppliers. Compare pricing, specifications, and delivery dates to ensure cost effectiveness.
- Troubleshoot issues with orders, expedite supplies, and maintain delivery status on purchased items.
- Access Engineering documents for vendor communications.
- Create or modify Item Cards in internal systems based off of mechanical drawings.
- Interact with other department personnel and other teams (internal and external) to assure completion of purchasing requirements.
What You’ll Need:
- 2-4 years of successful buying experience for manufacturing.
- An associate degree in related field preferred. A bachelor’s degree in related field helpful.
- MRP experience.
- Inventory control experience.
- Software / Systems experience: MS Word, Excel, Outlook, and capable of learning/functioning within MRP systems
- Mechanical knowledge: ability to understand and communicate about mechanical drawings.
- Strong prioritization and organizational skills.
- Attention to detail.
- Ability to function in a fast-paced, high-volume environment.
- Excellent communication skills.
- Excellent customer service skills.
- Problem-solving ability.
- Ability to work independently and within a team environment.
- Self-starter, proactive, and energetic.
