What are the responsibilities and job description for the Paraprofessional position at Hawthorne Brook Middle School?
HBMS is seeking paraprofessionals to work with students. Primary duties include:
> Providing support in the inclusion setting
> Oversee independent/guided practice
> Assist teachers with engaging students in learning and assist in instruction
> Modifying or adapting instruction for students with disabilities
> Providing one-on-one assistance to students with disabilities
> Guiding independent study, enrichment work, and remedial work with students as set up and assigned by the teacher
> Working with individual students or small groups of students to reinforce learning of the material and/or skill introduced by the teacher

General support of a classroom or classrooms
Provide academic support and carry over of the lessons the teacher and Special Education Teacher has developed
Provide all accommodations delineated within a student’s designated IEP/504
Implement modifications that have been developed by the classroom teacher and/or Special Education Teacher
Develop materials based on specific instruction from the classroom teacher and/or Special Education Teacher
Create opportunities and instructs students to be independent in a variety of settings across their school day
Provide carry over of instructional practices developed by related service providers (speech, OT, PT, Psychologist)
Potentially assigned to multiple/different classroom grade levels
Ability to implement behavioral/social support plans within the classroom to individual students or group of students (including but not limited to attending, non-compliance, completion of tasks, following rules and classroom expectations)
Provide small or whole group instruction within the classroom
Regular education and special education students will be supported
Engage individual and small groups of learners in instructional activities
Share relevant information about learners with teachers and other school personnel as needed to facilitate problem solving, decision-making, and program planning
Support students to access a variety of technology
Complete all required documentation related to incidents and discipline, etc.
Complete data collection related to academic functioning/student performance that supports instruction
Facilitate positive relationships and engagements with peers
Support students with organization of materials, assignments and schedules
May be required to assist student taking notes or scribing
Ensure that all accommodations outlined in the DCAP (District Curriculum Accommodation Plan) are implemented based on student needs
Assist in the facilitation of MCAS based on accommodations
Support students during their electives and lunches, as needed
Facilitate and support arrival and dismissal times, as needed
Maintain student confidentiality
Carry out other relative assignments designated by the Principal or the Assistant Principal
Required Skills, Experience and Competencies:
High school degree or equivalent
Enjoys working with children and is dedicated to the education of all children
Exemplifies the core values of North Middlesex Regional School District
Academic knowledge of the curriculum of the grade level supported
