What are the responsibilities and job description for the Safety Specialist position at Hawkins HR Consulting, LLC?
We are seeking a proactive and experienced Safety Specialist to lead and support our client's workplace safety initiatives working partially on days and nights to have a presence on each shift. The schedule for this role will be Monday - Thursday 12:00 Noon - 10:00 PM with Fridays as needed. This role is responsible for ensuring compliance with all safety regulations, promoting a strong safety culture, and partnering with operations to minimize risk and prevent incidents for a workforce of approximately 75 non-union associates.
Key Responsibilities
- Be very hands-on, present and available to production associates and leaders for safety-related activities
- Lead and enforce all company safety policies, procedures, and OSHA regulations
- Conduct routine safety inspections, audits, and risk assessments
- Investigate accidents, incidents, and near-misses; determine root causes and implement corrective actions
- Facilitate safety training programs and onboarding for new employees
- Maintain accurate safety records, reports, and compliance documentation
- Partner with leadership and employees to drive continuous safety improvements
- Monitor workplace conditions and recommend improvements to reduce hazards
- Ensure proper use of PPE and adherence to safety protocols
- Support emergency preparedness and response planning
- Taking environmental samples and coordinate with 3rd party reporting
- Processing Worker's Compensation claims
- Review, recommend and approve CapEx projects as Safety SME
Required Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree (Safety, Environmental Health, or related field strongly preferred)
- 2 years of experience in a safety role in manufacturing, warehouse, or industrial environments
- Strong knowledge of OSHA standards and workplace safety regulations
- Proven experience conducting investigations and implementing corrective actions
- Ability to influence and engage employees at all levels
Preferred Qualifications
- CSP, OHST or similar
- OSHA 30 Certification (or higher)
- First Aid/CPR certification
Work Environment & Schedule
- Afternoon/evening position covering 1/2 of 1st shift and 1/2 of 2nd shift
- Onsite in a fast-paced operational environment
- May require occasional extended hours based on business needs
