A Neurodiagnostics Assistant supports neurodiagnostic technicians and diagnostic department, working under the supervision of neurodiagnostic technologists, physicians, and other healthcare professionals to diagnose neurological conditions.
The role combines technical, patient care, and administrative responsibilities, ensuring the smooth operation of neurodiagnostic services.
Key Responsibilities
- Continuously monitor patients undergoing procedures such as electroencephalography (EEG), long-term monitoring (LTM), or video/EEG monitoring for safety, either in-room or via remote video systems.
- Alert physicians, nurses, or clinical staff during clinical seizures or other significant events to ensure timely intervention.
- Promote patient safety during tests and adhere to facility protocols and guidelines, such as those set by ABRET.
- Assist in preparing patients for neurodiagnostic tests, including EEG, evoked potentials (EP) monitoring.
- Set up and maintain equipment for procedures, ensuring proper functioning and cleanliness.
- Provide intraprocedural support, such as assisting with electrode placement correction and initial set up and disconnect.
- Document procedural data and maintain supplies and equipment related to neurodiagnostic tests.
- Confirming patient appointments and assisting with filling empty schedules
- May include also supporting BEAM with hands on patient care and running the study
Collaboration and Communication
- Act as a liaison between patients, families, providers, nursing staff, and other departmental teams, such as scheduling or admissions.
- Work collaboratively with EEG technologists, neurodiagnostic technologists, and other healthcare staff in settings like hospitals, outpatient clinics, or epilepsy monitoring units.
Administrative Duties
- Assist with scheduling neurodiagnostic procedures and coordinating with patients.
- Maintain accurate records and ensure compliance with departmental policies, procedures, and regulations.
Limitations
- Neurodiagnostic Assistants are **not trained or qualified to analyze EEG data** or interpret diagnostic results, as this is reserved for qualified neurodiagnostic technologists or specialists.
Skills and Qualifications
Education and Training & Experience
- High school diploma or higher education required.
- Basic Life Support (BLS) certification from the American Heart Association.
- Requires at least 1 year of experience in neurodiagnostic or direct patient care.
- Requires at least 1 year of experience in customer service or patient care related field experience.
- Knowledge of monitoring systems, camera controls, and neurodiagnostic equipment.
- Strong understanding of medical terminology and patient care protocols.
- Ability to exercise independent judgment in interdisciplinary patient care settings and prioritize clinical situations.
- Proficiency with computers and technology for documentation and equipment operation.
- Excellent communication and teamwork skills to collaborate with healthcare teams and interact with patients of all ages.
Setting
- Neurodiagnostic Assistants work in an outpatient clinics, epilepsy monitoring unit and research facility.
- The role involves sitting for extended periods, assisting with patient positioning, and handling technical equipment.

Monday: 09:00am - 01:00pm (Administrative only)
Tuesday: 08:00am – 05:00pm
Wednesday: 08:00am – 05:00pm
Thursday: 08:00am – 05:00pm
