JOB DUTIES: The Speech Pathologist III conducts evaluations and plans for and administers treatment programs pertaining to all varieties of speech-language and swallowing disorders of the West Hawaii Region. This position may be required to work shifts, weekends, and holidays.
THE MINIMUM QUALIFICATION REQUIREMENTS ARE: Applicants must meet all of the following requirements. Please note that unless specifically indicated; the required education and experiences may not be gained concurrently. In addition, qualifying work experiences are based on a 40-hour work week.
EDUCATION REQUIREMENT:Applicant must possess a master’s degree or equivalent from an accredited college or university in speech pathology or equivalent recognized by the State of Hawaii Board of Speech Pathology and Audiology.
EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENT:Completion of all licensing requirements specified in the Rules of the Board of Speech Pathology and Audiology of the State of Hawaii to practice as a Speech Pathologist.
·SPEECH PATHOLOGY EXPERIENCE:Professional experience which dealt with the detection, prevention or the application of remedies for the alleviation or treatment of speech-language disorders, or teaching speech pathology at the graduate level in an accredited university.
SUBSTITUTIONS ALLOWED:
·SUBSTITUTION OF EDUCATION FOR EXPERIENCE:Possession of a Ph.D. degree in Speech Pathology from an accredited college or university may be substituted for one year of Speech Pathology experience.
QUALITY OF EXPERIENCE:Possession of the required number of years of experience will not in itself be accepted as proof of qualification for a position. The applicant’s overall experience must have been of such scope and level of responsibility as to conclusively demonstrate that he/she has the ability to perform the duties of the position for which he/she is being considered.
LICENSE REQUIRED:
·PROFESSIONAL LICENSE REQUIREMENT:A valid license with the State of Hawaii as a Speech Language Pathologist at the time of appointment.
·DRIVER’S LICENSE:For some positions, possession of a valid license to drive in the State of Hawaii.
KNOWLEDGE AND ABILITIES REQUIRED:
·KNOWLEDGE OF:Principles and practices of speech pathology; various kinds of speech-language disorders, their causes and treatment; anatomy, physiology, etiology and basic sciences of communications disorders; child growth and development, and the physical and emotional problems of handicapped children; community resources; current developments and trends in speech-language therapy.
·ABILITY TO:Effectively treat patients with speech-language disorders; administer and interpret a variety of tests designed to evaluate speech-language disorders; prepare reports; deal effectively with patients and other individuals and groups.

The cost for physical examinations, except the cost for drug screening, shall be borne by the applicant and not the Hawaii Health Systems Corporation.

If you do not submit your request within the twenty (20) days deadline, no Administrative Review will be conducted. Since the Administrative Review is a prerequisite to subsequent steps, failure to utilize this process will make you ineligible for subsequent appeals. The administrative review, formal complaint and/or appeals hearing will not necessarily postpone the recruitment process and/or rescind a selection. If you do not agree with the Administrative Review, you may file a Formal Compliant and then, if you are still not satisfied, you can appeal to the HHSC Merit Appeals Board.
