Overview
PURPOSE STATEMENT:
Performs as a qualified Accountant following GAAP, public utility regulatory rules and established procedures and instructions to maintain general ledger and all related accounting documents.
Responsibilities
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS/RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Complies appropriate financial information; examines and varies correctness/appropriateness of source documents as to accuracy/authenticity of accounts and enters/posts to respective ledgers.
- Analyzes financial information detailing assets, liabilities, capital projects, revenues and expenses.
- Prepares balance sheet, profit and loss statement, and other reports, which summarize current and projected company financial position.
- Reconciles various accounts and subsidiary ledgers.
- Performs bank reconciliations.
- Communicates with internal (e.g. operations personnel) or outside parties (e.g. government offices) as necessary to clarify or resolve matters within the scope of job.
- Provides assistance to internal and external auditors.

JOB QUALIFICATIONS:
Required Education and/or Work Experience:
- Bachelor's degree in Accounting (or relative field) from an accredited college and 1-2 years successful and progressive in-field experience. The equivalent of 5-6 years of experience may be substituted if the education requirement of a Bachelor’s degree is not met.
- Good working knowledge of Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP) and public utility regulatory rules with demonstrated application of theory and practice of modern accounting.
- Must be accurate and efficient in making computations and balancing accounts.
- Must be computer literate and proficient in the use of current software systems (i.e., Great Plains, Orcom, Microsoft Office Internet, Windows, etc.), proficient with 10-key.
Preferred Education and/or Work Experience:
- three (3) years of direct experience in a responsible accounting position maintaining general ledger and related books of accounting.
Supervision:
Under the direction of the Head Accountant and general supervision of the Director, Corporate Accounting may receive assignments from the Financial Analyst. May be assigned duties and responsibilities of the Head Accountant in his/her absence.
