POSITION SUMMARY
The Warehouse Sanitation Specialist is responsible for general warehouse sanitation in accordance with Hawaii Foodbank’s Master Cleaning Schedules (MCS), food safety programs, and as a complement to the area-specific (Salvage, cold storage, Market, main dry warehouse) MCS responsibilities. This applies to the interior of the warehouse, and to exterior groundskeeping. The position is responsible for proper processing of waste materials throughout the warehouse, including empties (pallets, bread trays, milk crates, banana boxes), waste corrugate, waste plastic, trash, and support of inventory waste generated in the salvage and produce sorting areas. Reports directly to the Assistant Director of Operations while also accepting task assignments from warehouse supervisory roles.
The position requires a team-oriented spirit as well as a “no task too small” attitude that is necessary in a fast-paced environment. Must be flexible and adaptable to a fluid and dynamic environment, and bring a positive, can-do, attitude to daily work challenges. The position prioritizes customer service and collaboration and can balance competing work demands with composure and accountability.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES include the following:
- Completing assigned sanitation duties across the Master Cleaning Schedules (daily/weekly, monthly, quarterly, annually) and in all warehouse work areas.
- examples include
- using HEPA-vac along all yellow lines, edges, corners, crevices, pallet racking upright feet, etc
- running the floor scrubber throughout the warehouse
- using the scissor lift for high-reach dusting, cobweb removal, and other cleaning work
- Using the pressure washer for exterior cleaning
- Coordinates access to work areas with management so that interruptions to daily operations are prevented or minimized.
- Consistently applies training in use of equipment, cleaning standards, cleaning methods, and other core job responsibilities.
- Must accurately complete all required compliance documentation on-time, and on-quality.
- Provides utility support to receiving and putaway processes when needed to cover absences and peak activity.
- Processes empties, including pallets, bread trays, milk crates, banana boxes, slip sheets, and other common containers and materials used to support inventory flows.
- Processes waste across work areas, including corrugated, plastic, and product losses in sorting areas.
- Helps to maintain warehouse to established standards of organization; applies 6S concepts in daily work.
- Supports event preparation and setup; bringing needed materials down from the Mezzanine and putting them back in an organized and safe manner.
- Completes required certifications and safely operates equipment required for this position, including:
- material handling equipment (forklifts, pallet jacks)
- maintenance equipment (scissor lift, floor scrubber, etc)
- groundskeeping equipment such as string trimmer, blower, pressure washer, etc
- Is vigilant of safety risks and acts to minimize risks for trip, slip, and fall.
- Safely adheres to established procedures for the use of chemical cleaners, spill containment and clean-up, and proper use of personal protective equipment (PPE).
Organizational Responsibilities
- Comply with food safety standards and procedures, including but not limited to, AIB and regulatory agencies.
- Attends and participates in relevant staff and committee meetings.
- Participates in staff development activities/trainings as needed to complete job duties or as required by operations leadership.
- Is responsible for developing and maintaining positive, effective working relationships with fellow staff, volunteers and board members.
- Ensures that all Hawaii Foodbank staff, volunteers, agency representatives, contractors, and other types of visitors are treated with dignity and respect.
- Participates in organization’s public awareness events, community outreach and fundraising events, as needed.
- Performs other duties as needed and/or upon request.
- Reports on-site for scheduled days and hours.
- Conduct self in a professional and ethical manner at all times. Treat external and internal customers and associates with courtesy and respect.

EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE
- Driver’s License is required.
- High School Degree and/or some college; or 3 years related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience.
LANGUAGE SKILLS
- Ability to read and comprehend simple instructions, short correspondence, and memos.
- Ability to write simple correspondence.
- Ability to effectively present information in one-on one and small group situations to customers, clients and other employees of the organization.
MATHEMATICAL SKILLS
- Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals.
- Ability to compute rate, ratio, and percent and to draw and interpret bar graphs.
- Ability to calculate figures and amounts such as discounts, interest, commissions, percentages.

- Field work requiring driving for off-site vendors and programs
