Eligibility Specialist
Hawaiʻi Island Community Health Center is looking for a detail‑oriented, patient‑focused Eligibility Specialist to help patients understand their insurance coverage, financial assistance options, and Sliding Fee Scale (SFS) program.
Department: Finance Office
Status: Full-Time, Non-Exempt
Location: Kona or Hilo
Compensation: Starts at $18.50 per hour and is adjusted based on your experience and skill set.
Key Responsibilities
- Screen patients for insurance and assistance programs
- Collect required documents and complete applications
- Enter and update insurance/demographic data accurately
- Review and track Sliding Fee Scale (SFS) applications
- Follow up with patients and agencies to ensure timely processing
- Support outreach activities and maintain weekly documentation
- Assist with general office duties as needed
What You Need
- High School diploma or GED
- 6–12 months of related experience (or equivalent training)
- Basic office and computer skills
- Strong communication and customer service abilities
- Ability to handle multiple tasks, follow instructions, and work with diverse populations
- Commitment to confidentiality and professionalism
Work Environment
- Office setting with occasional clinical exposure
- Full-time schedule: overtime may be required
- Requires attention to detail, problem‑solving, and good stress management
