What are the responsibilities and job description for the Special Education Teacher 26-27 SY position at Havern School?
Havern Autism Program (HAP) has a special education teacher position open for our Specialty School classroom. We serve autistic students in multi-grade classrooms that span kindergarten through 5th grade. Teachers oversee a maximum of 6-7 students. Each class is supported by a Registered Behavior Technician as needed to maintain a 3:1 student to teacher ratio. Students break into skill based groups for academics.
Responsibilities:
- Plan, modify and deliver grade or skill based instruction as provided by the student’s Individualized Education Program or Colorado State Standards.
- Ensure efficiency and quality of instruction delivery
- Work closely with HAP BCBA to ensure intervention and skill acquisition plans are applicable and manageable in a classroom setting
- Provide coverage for classroom staff as needed
- Build students’ confidence and self-esteem as you come to know them as learners and individuals
- Meet quarterly with Lead Sped Teacher and Director of HAP to discuss program successes and challenges and receive feedback
- Ensure classrooms are orderly, organized and equipped to meet the needs of the program and students, and present a professional appearance to the community
- Communicate with families via conferences, phone conversations, emails and ensure other monthly information is sent regarding classroom activities (calendars, newsletters, etc.)
- Maintain student notes, anecdotal records, observations, work samples, and any appropriate assessments
- Complete student progress reports three times annually: October, February, and May
- Assume full responsibility for organizing, scheduling and participating in parent-teacher-student conferences at a minimum of three times annually
- Document reports, discipline, student health and other professional correspondence as appropriate
- Attend regular faculty meetings and other team or school-wide meetings as needed
- Take advantage of professional development opportunities and remain current with CO state teaching license, educational research, and best practices
- Engage in self-assessment and work towards professional goals and professional growth
- Play an active role in the admissions process through classroom visits, observations, and events
- Participate fully in the life of the school by contributing to and attending school events, supporting advancement/development efforts, and being a representative of the school
- Promote enrollment for the school internally and externally
- Support the school and its leadership
- Other duties as assigned
Qualifications and Competencies:
- Bachelor’s degree in special education, Master’s degree preferred
- Active Special Education Colorado Teacher License required
- Specific training and experience in the area of autism spectrum disorder
- The ability to work collaboratively with other service providers so as to implement learning and behavior plans with fidelity.
- Commitment to the mission and philosophy of Havern School
- Sensitivity to intellectual, physical, and emotional needs of students
- Excellent verbal, written communication skills and strong organizational and management skills
- History of excellent attendance and punctuality
- Experience in curriculum development, collaborative planning and team teaching
- Belief in each child’s individual’s ability and potential to learn and succeed
- Growth mindset with a desire to grow and expand the classroom opportunities
Salary Range: $53,000-$60,000. This is a full-time EXEMPT position. Salary is negotiable based on experience and/or additional qualifications.
