Job Summary: The Quality Specialist – Food Science position has the primary responsibility of ensuring we provide customers with safe, high-quality foods and can provide proof to them that we do so.
Pay – $27 /hour. Based on qualifications and experience, this is extremely flexible.
Schedule – 1st shift, Monday-Friday. Schedule may flex with Production needs. Benefits – Medical, dental and vision; STD, LTD and Life company paid; 401k with company match. Employee pays only 15% of medical costs and company contributes HSA dollars annually of $1,000 for a Single and $2,000 for a Family.
Essential Job Functions:
- Assist in the development of food safety related policies (cGMP’s, HACCP, SQF, among others) and procedures for the organization (SOP and SSOP’s).
- Audit compliance with food safety and quality assurance policies and procedures and report results to upper management. Work with other managers to create plans for moving toward compliance.
- Assist in the management of all food safety audits. (Records of all reviews and reasons for amending documents, validations and changes to the Food Safety Management System shall be maintained)
- Conducts daily review of acidified food records (process and quality control records).
- Coordinates the finished product positive release program.
- Assist in the development of quality assurance policies (GMP, food safety, and quality systems) and standard operating procedures (SOPs) for manufacturing products.
- Manage defective stock and implement corrective actions.
- Assist in the administering of compliance programs in conjunction with the QA Manager and Supervisor in the areas of preprocess/process/post process finished goods specifications; HACCP/Food Safety, GMP/Food Safety self-inspections.
- Performs microbiological testing for samples of outgoing products
- Leads environmental monitoring program.
- Aid in the implementation of effective process control systems to support the development, validation, and support of ongoing manufacturing processes.
- Creates Certificates of Analysis.
- Assist lab technicians during heavy workload periods.
- Assists QA Manager with food safety investigations related to complaints, holds, or other concerns.
- Remains up to date on the current state of food safety legislation, recall trends, and new methods for testing, process controls, and food acidification and uses that knowledge to work with the QA Manager on continuous improvement initiatives.
- Monitors product shelf life.
- Assists in leading sensory analysis program.
- Acts as an effective team member in supporting quality disciplines, decisions, and practices.
- Other duties assigned.
Education and/or Experience:
- Associates in a science field, bachelor's degree preferred, with a focus in microbiology, food science, food safety, or another related field.
- 1-2 years of related training and experience.
- PCQI and HACCP certifications are preferred.
