Crew Worker – Sanitation

Position: Crew Worker

Department: Public Works

Division: Sanitation

Rate of Pay: $15.00/hr

Nature Of Work

Responsible for keeping streets of city free of garbage and trash using scheduled intervals for pickup.

Examples Of Work

• Pick up residential and commercial garbage on a regular basis
• Collect garbage and trash from streets, put such items in truck and deliver to landfill for disposal
• Complete all scheduled garbage routes
• Take collected garbage to the proper dump location
• Dump garbage at the authorized location
• Make special garbage pick-ups as scheduled
• Make sure route is clean
• Pick up dead animals and animal feces
• Wash and clean truck
• Write reports on mileage and loads
• May supervise other crew workers
• Daily maintenance of departmental vehicles
• Perform preventive maintenance on vehicles and equipment by checking tire pressures, oil and fluid levels and pressures before each run
• Complete weekly schedule maintenance on trucks
• Clean trucks at the end of each day
• Performs other duties as directed.
  
  

Qualifications

High school diploma or G.E.D equivalent. Will be exposed to chemical and/or hazardous materials on a daily basis with waste, dead animals, etc. Will be working in extreme weather conditions. Must have a valid MS driver’s license. Position involves heavy lifting, and climbing. Must have good communication skills and have the ability to follow instructions. Must be dependable.
