What are the responsibilities and job description for the Cook position at Hattie's Glen Assisted Living & Memory Care?
The Cook provides support with meal service, food safety, sanitation, and resident-centered dining experiences in accordance with state health codes. This role supports the nutritional and social well-being of residents by ensuring that meals are served timely, safely, and with dignity.
Work Schedule:
Hours may vary and include mornings, evenings, weekends, and holidays, depending on the needs of the community and dining service schedules.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
Ensure food is served at safe and appropriate temperatures, following DHS food safety guidelines.
Assist residents in a respectful and courteous manner, promoting autonomy and dignity during mealtimes.
Follow menus and portion sizes as directed by the dietary manager or cook.
Clean food service equipment in compliance with sanitation standards.
Properly store leftovers and label food items per food safety protocols.
Maintain knowledge of resident dietary restrictions, food allergies, or special diets.
Ensure that snacks and beverages are available to residents per DHS 83.44 and resident rights under DHS 83.32 and DHS 89.24.
Participate in staff training and follow all infection control, sanitation, and safety protocols.
Assist with dishwashing, cleaning of the kitchen, and restocking supplies as needed
Minimum Qualifications:
Must be at least 18 years of age.
High school diploma or equivalent preferred.
Previous experience in food service or healthcare settings is preferred.
Must be able to read and follow written menus and instructions.
Must be able to lift up to 25 pounds and stand for extended periods.
Ability to work as part of a team and demonstrate a positive attitude and respect for residents.
Regulatory Compliance (DHS 83 & DHS 89):
Must follow all infection control procedures and sanitation practices per DHS 83.42(3) and DHS 89.23(4).
Adhere to the community’s Resident Rights policies and ensure meals are provided in a person-centered manner.
Must complete training on standard precautions, residents' rights, and dietary safety within 90 days of hire as required by DHS 83.20.
May be subject to background check and caregiver registry clearance under Wis. Stat. § 50.065.
