Job Title: CNC Vertical Mill Operator / Setup TechnicianJob Summary Responsible for the setup, occasional program editing at the machine controls, and operation of vertical CNC mills to support production machining in a job shop environment.Essential FunctionsSet up CNC mills for production runs, including tooling selection, work holding, and fixture installation.Prove out setups by running and inspecting first-piece parts to verify accuracy against blueprints.Troubleshoot, edit, and optimize existing CNC programs (primarily G-code editing at the control) to improve cycle times and efficiency.Document program changes, setups, and process improvements to enable repeatable production and minimize setup times.Monitor and oversee part quality within the machining cell, taking ownership of produced components.Proactively manage workload by anticipating tooling needs for upcoming jobs to reduce downtime.Optimize machine utilization through proper feeds, speeds, cutter compensation, and modern programming techniques.Inspect and deburr finished parts using precision measuring tools to ensure compliance with blueprint specifications and tolerances.Assist in designing and producing jigs, fixtures, or tooling enhancements to boost productivity.Operate machinery safely and skillfully to prevent damage, crashes, or equipment issues.Perform routine preventive maintenance on machines and maintain a clean, organized work area.Adhere to all company safety policies, procedures, and best practices.Perform additional duties as assigned to support team and production goals.Requirements / Skills and QualificationsMinimum 2 years of independent experience setting up and operating CNC mills in a job shop or similar environment.Strong understanding of CNC programming structure, tooling theory, and appropriate speeds/feeds for various materials.Preferred experience with Fanuc controls.Manual programming or on-machine program editing experience is a strong plus.Experience with Makino horizontal mills is helpful but not required.Ability to read and interpret complex blueprints, identify critical dimensions, and perform inspections/checks using standard measuring instruments (calipers, micrometers, bore gauges, etc.).Solid GD&T (Geometric Dimensioning and Tolerancing) knowledge is a plus.Possession of personal measuring tools/gages is preferred (company provides and calibrates as needed).Proven ability to machine a wide variety of complex parts from detailed drawings.Flexibility to adapt quickly to changing production schedules and priorities.Dependable, detail-oriented, with a strong focus on quality and safety.Company DescriptionHathaway Partners, LLC dba.
