What are the responsibilities and job description for the Engineering Lab Technician position at Hatco Corporation?
Support the design, development, and validation of product development projects. Perform hands-on testing, data acquisition, and analysis to generate accurate documentation supporting engineering decisions and regulatory (agency) approvals.
ESSENTIAL JOB RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Build, modify, and rework PCB assemblies (PCBAs), wiring harnesses, and related hardware, including both surface mount (SMT) and through-hole technologies.
- Assist engineers in the design, development, and validation of new and existing products. Design and fabricate test fixtures as required.
- Execute test plans and produce well-documented reports, including charts and data analysis, in accordance with Engineering Standards.
- Evaluate electrical components and recommend alternatives based on performance, reliability, and test results.
- Support regulatory compliance efforts by preparing and executing tests for agency approvals in coordination with the Standards Engineer.
- Operate and maintain lab instrumentation, including oscilloscopes, frequency analyzers, thermocouples, infrared cameras, and data acquisition systems.
- Collect, analyze, and interpret test data using appropriate software tools to generate engineering reports.
- Maintain laboratory organization, safety, and equipment calibration; coordinate activities of test interns when applicable.
- Design, set up, and monitor long-term reliability and environmental tests in collaboration with the Reliability Engineer.
- Diagnose, troubleshoot, and repair electronic assemblies at the component level.
- Read and interpret electrical schematics and wiring diagrams; perform accurate electrical measurements.
- Perform additional duties as assigned by Engineering leadership.
QUALIFICATIONS:
- Strong organizational, analytical, and problem-solving skills.
- Effective written and verbal communication skills, including technical report writing.
- Proficiency with standard lab tools, hand tools, and light fabrication equipment.
- Solid computer skills, including Microsoft Excel and Word.
- Ability to travel up to 15% for field testing and troubleshooting.
EDUCATIONAL OR EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS:
- Associate degree (2-year) in Electrical Engineering Technology or related field required.
- Minimum of 3 years of hands-on experience in product testing or electronics lab environment.
- Experience with electronic test equipment (e.g., oscilloscopes) and soldering (SMT and through-hole) strongly preferred.
