Hastings Law Firm, P.C. | The Woodlands, Texas
Full-Time | In-Person | 2-5 Years Experience

About Hastings Law Firm
Hastings Law Firm is a plaintiff’s medical malpractice firm with a national presence, headquartered in The Woodlands, Texas. We represent patients and families who have suffered catastrophic injuries, brain injuries, birth injuries, and wrongful death due to medical negligence. We are highly selective about the cases we take because we believe in committing serious resources to every case we handle.
Our firm invests heavily in technology and innovation. We use modern case management systems and proprietary AI-powered tools to process and analyze medical records, giving our attorneys a significant edge in understanding complex medical cases. If you want to practice at a firm that treats technology as a competitive advantage, not an afterthought, this is the right place.
The Role
We are looking for an associate attorney with 2 to 5 years of plaintiff-side experience in personal injury or medical malpractice who is ready to do the most challenging and rewarding work of their career. Medical malpractice is not high-volume, fast-turnover litigation. It requires the ability to learn medicine, think critically about causation, work closely with experts, and build cases that can withstand the scrutiny of well-funded defense teams.
This is a position with real responsibility and real growth. You will handle cases from evaluation through resolution, take and defend depositions, develop litigation strategy, and prepare cases for trial. The right candidate has a solid litigation foundation and wants to develop into a first-chair trial attorney in medical malpractice.
What You Will Do
- Evaluate potential cases, including detailed analysis of medical records, standard of care issues, causation, and damages
- Assist with cases from intake through resolution, developing and executing litigation strategy at every stage
- Take and defend depositions of fact witnesses, medical experts, and corporate representatives
- Work closely with medical experts and consultants to develop case theories and prepare expert testimony
- Draft pleadings, discovery, motions, and briefs
- Represent clients in court proceedings, mediations, and settlement negotiations
- Use the firm’s technology tools, including AI-powered medical record analysis, to build stronger cases more efficiently
- Maintain consistent, clear communication with clients throughout their cases
- Prepare cases for trial, including witness preparation, exhibit development, and trial strategy
What We Are Looking For
Required:
- Active license to practice law in Texas
- 2 to 5 years of plaintiff-side experience in personal injury or medical malpractice litigation
- Strong knowledge of Texas civil procedure and the Texas Rules of Evidence
- Deposition experience — you have taken and defended depositions, not just attended them
- Excellent legal writing and analytical skills
- Critical thinking ability — you can review medical records and identify the issues that matter, not just catalog what happened
- Strong technology skills — you are comfortable with modern legal technology and willing to learn new tools
- The ability to manage a caseload, prioritize effectively, and meet deadlines without constant supervision
- Strong client-facing skills — you can explain complex legal and medical concepts in plain English and build trust with clients and their families
Preferred:
- Medical malpractice experience (if your background is personal injury, we will train you in medmal — but you need to want it)
- Trial experience or meaningful trial preparation experience
- Experience working with medical experts
- Familiarity with case management platforms (Filevine, Clio, or similar)
- Comfort with AI tools and legal technology
Who Thrives Here
You are the kind of attorney who wants to understand the medicine, not just the law. You read the medical records yourself. You prepare your own cases. You do not hand things off and hope someone else catches the details. You want to try cases, not just settle them, and you understand that the best settlements come from being ready for trial.
You are looking for a firm where you will be challenged, where you will learn, and where your work has a direct impact on people’s lives. You want to be mentored by experienced trial attorneys, but you do not need to be micromanaged. You take initiative, you think critically, and you hold yourself to a high standard. If you want to build a career in medical malpractice litigation — not just check a box on your resume — we want to hear from you.
What We Offer
- Complex, meaningful casework — not assembly-line personal injury litigation
- A clear path to growth, including opportunities for first-chair trial experience
- Access to cutting-edge legal technology and AI-powered tools built specifically for medical malpractice work
- Competitive salary plus performance-based bonus
- Benefits including health insurance, life insurance, 401(k) with employer match, and paid time off
- A collaborative, team-oriented environment where attorneys are trusted with real responsibility
