The teacher will promote reading comprehension, analytical and expository writing, speaking/listening, language conventions, vocabulary development, and critical thinking while connecting literacy to real-world contexts and cross-curricular learning appropriate for 7th grade.

The teacher will promote reading comprehension, analytical and expository writing, speaking/listening, language conventions, vocabulary development, and critical thinking while connecting literacy to real-world contexts and cross-curricular learning appropriate for 7th grade.
General Duties / Essential Functions
- Provide and deliver Grade 7 Language Arts instruction that incorporates the essential elements of effective instruction: clear learning targets, modeled & guided practice, frequent checks for understanding, and differentiated independent practice.
- Plan and deliver instruction at appropriate levels of rigor in alignment with district curriculum and Minnesota state standards.
- Teach discrete learning objectives across reading, writing, speaking/listening, and language.
- Employ a variety of instructional strategies, methods, and principles of learning to meet diverse learner needs and district outcomes.
- Plan and develop unit plans, lesson plans, formative and summative assessments, instructional materials, and engaging, standards-aligned learning experiences tailored to Grade 7 learners.
- Conduct ongoing assessment of student learning and growth; analyze assessment data to determine needs for reinforcement, intervention, or acceleration; modify instruction accordingly.
- Provide targeted small-group and individualized instruction to accelerate learning and close gaps.
- Organize and maintain accurate systems for grading, attendance, record-keeping, and reporting in accordance with district procedures and applicable laws.
- Establish and maintain a safe, respectful, and organized classroom environment that fosters student responsibility, cooperation, and mutual respect; enforce school and district behavior expectations.
- Promote family involvement and maintain timely communication about student progress, strengths, and next steps through conferences, email, newsletters, and digital platforms.
- Collaborate with grade-level colleagues, content-area specialists, and building leaders to plan instruction, analyze data, design interventions, and coordinate supports.
- Provide instructional leadership to paraeducators or other support staff assigned to the classroom.
- Participate in Professional Learning Communities (PLCs), faculty meetings, district initiatives, and student-support meetings (including IEP/MTSS) as required.
- Perform other related duties as assigned by the building principal or district administrators.
- Minnesota teaching certification appropriate for middle level Language Arts (58 ELA).
- Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university in Education or a related discipline applicable to the assignment.
- Bachelor's degree required; Master's degree in a related area preferred.
- Successful prior teaching experience at the middle school level preferred, particularly with Grade 7 learners.
- Strong content knowledge and classroom experience in language artsreading comprehension, literary analysis, argument and informative writing, academic language, and oral communication.
- Experience designing and delivering engaging, standards-aligned literacy instruction that includes differentiation and formative assessment.
- Evidence of strong relationship-building skills with students, families, and colleagues.
- Commitment to team planning and collaboration, culturally responsive instruction, restorative practices, and whole-child development (academic, social, emotional, interpersonal, ethical).
- Knowledge of middle level ELA pedagogy, adolescent literacy development, and differentiation strategies for Grade 7.
- Skill in designing assessments, interpreting student data (formative and summative), and using results to inform instruction and interventions.
- Familiarity with district data systems, learning management systems, and instructional technologies (e.g., Schoology, Infinite Campus).
- Strong classroom management, organizational, written, and verbal communication skills.
- Ability to write clear lesson plans, learning targets, rubrics, parent communications, and reports.
- Capacity to facilitate collaborative PLC conversations, co-teach, and provide job-embedded coaching.
- Cultural competence and ability to work effectively with racially, culturally, and economically diverse students and families.
- Work is performed in standard school and office environments.
- Position requires regular interaction with students, staff, and families and the ability to manage multiple priorities.
