SUMMARY: Under the direction of the Director of Facilities, the Groundskeeper performs a variety of grounds, turf, and landscape maintenance duties across district properties and provides snow and ice removal to keep grounds safe, clean, and well-maintained for students, staff, and the community.
Essential Duties & Responsibilities
- Mow, edge, trim, water, fertilize, and maintain lawns, athletic fields, and turf areas.
- Plant, prune, cultivate, and care for trees, shrubs, flower beds, and other landscaping.
- Maintain athletic fields and grounds for games, practices, and district events, including lining and marking fields.
- Collect and remove trash, leaves, and debris; keep sidewalks, parking lots, and entrances clean and clear.
- Perform snow and ice removal, including plowing, shoveling, and salting of drives, lots, and walkways.
- Operate and perform routine maintenance on grounds equipment such as mowers, tractors, trimmers, blowers, and small trucks.
- Apply fertilizers and herbicides according to label directions and applicable regulations.
- Perform minor repairs to irrigation systems, fencing, and grounds fixtures. Assist maintenance and custodial staff and perform other related duties as assigned.
Qualifications
- High school diploma or equivalent.
- Valid Michigan driver's license required; Commercial Driver's License (CDL) preferred.
- One year of grounds, landscaping, or related experience preferred.
- Ability to safely operate grounds equipment and hand and power tools.
- Knowledge of basic grounds maintenance practices and safety procedures.
- Ability to follow instructions, work independently, and work reliably in all weather conditions.
- Pesticide applicator certification a plus, or willingness to obtain.
Physical Demands and Work Environment
- Frequent standing, walking, bending, stooping, kneeling, and reaching.
- Ability to lift and carry up to 50 pounds and operate motorized equipment.
- Work is performed primarily outdoors with exposure to varying weather, noise, dust, fumes, and chemicals.
- May require early morning, evening, or weekend hours during snow events or district activities.
