What are the responsibilities and job description for the PT Security Guard position at Harvest Preparatory Academy?
Harvest Preparatory Academy is seeking reliable, observant, and student-centered Security Staff to join our team. This position is Part-time and is based at our Yuma campus, which serves approximately 1,200 students, and may occasionally provide coverage at our San Luis campus as needed.
Position Summary
Security staff play a critical role in supporting a safe, positive, and orderly school environment. This position ensures the safety of students, staff, and visitors by monitoring campus activity, enforcing school policies, and responding appropriately to incidents or emergencies.
Key Duties & Responsibilities
Duties include, but are not limited to:
Campus Safety & Supervision
- Monitor all students, staff, visitors, and vendors on campus to ensure safety and compliance with school rules and procedures.
- Maintain a visible presence during high-traffic periods (arrival, dismissal, lunch, recess, and passing periods).
- Conduct regular patrols and walkthroughs of school grounds, classrooms (as assigned), hallways, restrooms, parking lots, and perimeter areas.
- Verify visitor check-in procedures and ensure all guests follow campus protocols.
Incident Response & Reporting
- Respond quickly and professionally to safety concerns, conflicts, student altercations, or behavioral incidents.
- Document incidents accurately and promptly in accordance with school procedures.
- Communicate concerns or potential threats to administrators immediately.
Emergency Preparedness
- Assist with emergency drills such as lockdowns, fire drills, and evacuations.
- Support staff and students during real emergency situations following established protocols.
Student Support
- Help maintain orderly transitions and safe behavior during breaks, passing periods, and cafeteria times.
- Build positive rapport with students while maintaining consistent expectations.
- Support administrators and staff in de-escalating challenging behaviors when necessary.
Campus Operations
- Assist in daily opening and/or closing of school facilities, including securing gates, doors, and perimeter checks.
- Support campus events, assemblies, athletic events, and parent meetings with crowd monitoring and safety oversight.
- Report maintenance or safety hazards (broken gates, lighting issues, etc.).
Additional Duties
- Provide coverage at the San Luis campus as assigned.
- Perform other duties as assigned to support a safe and effective learning environment.
Minimum Requirements
- High school diploma or GED required
- 1–2 years of previous security experience preferred, especially in a school or youth-setting
- Basic knowledge of security and safety procedures
- Ability to communicate professionally and effectively in both English and Spanish
- Must hold or be able to obtain and maintain a valid IVP Fingerprint Clearance Card
- Ability to walk, stand, and patrol for extended periods and work in outdoor conditions
