As an Outdoor Receiver at Hartville Hardware's Middlefield location, you're the first point of contact for every delivery that comes through our yard. You keep things accurate, organized, and safe — and your attention to detail directly impacts what our customers receive and how fast they get it.
WHAT YOU'LL DO
Receiving Shipments
- Unload trucks and delivery vehicles as they arrive
- Inspect shipments for damage and verify accuracy against purchase orders and delivery documentation
- Sign off on deliveries and clearly document any issues — missing items, damaged goods, or discrepancies
Inventory Management
- Organize and store products so they are orderly, accessible, and easy to locate
- Tag and label incoming special-order products to ensure proper tracking
- Assist in maintaining accurate inventory levels and flag items that need reordering
- Perform periodic inventory checks to ensure products are correctly recorded and stored
Product Handling & Storage
- Move materials from the receiving area to storage using forklifts, pallet jacks, or manual handling
- Store products in a way that minimizes damage and maintains quality — including proper stacking of lumber
- Monitor the yard for safety hazards and report any issues promptly
Documentation & Reporting
- Keep accurate records of all received shipments, noting any discrepancies or damages
- Update inventory management systems or logs to reflect incoming goods
- Communicate clearly with the inventory team and management about stock levels and order issues
Safety & Compliance
- Follow all safety protocols when unloading and storing materials
- Operate forklifts, pallet jacks, and material-handling equipment safely and in compliance with OSHA regulations
- Maintain a clean, organized yard that is safe for both employees and customers
Teamwork & Collaboration
- Work closely with receiving staff, inventory, and sales teams to ensure smooth operations
- Assist with loading customer orders and preparing materials for delivery as needed
- Participate in team meetings and training to stay current on safety, products, and company goals
WHAT WE'RE LOOKING FOR
- Previous experience in a warehouse, lumber yard, or construction-related environment preferred
- Ability to safely operate forklifts, pallet jacks, and other material-handling equipment
- Strong attention to detail and a high degree of accuracy in all tasks
- Good communicator — you keep your team and management informed
- Team-oriented and able to work across departments effectively
