Job Description:
This position is responsible for a wide array of production operations at the Madison Seed Plant, as well as assisting the farm locations with planting, stewardship, Quality management, and monitoring of the seed corn crop. Hours may vary and during busy season overtime is required, including some weekends. Must be able to work in multiple environmental conditions and be on your feet for periods of time. You must be self-motivated, very detailed oriented, and maintain high quality standards to meet customer needs.
Responsibilities:
o Safely operate production equipment required to complete the required process.
o Able to troubleshoot equipment issues and perform basic repairs.
o Ability to learn seed treatment area and obtain a WI State Seed Treatment License.
o Ability to obtain pesticide applicator license and follow WPS standards.
o Assist in harvest time duties which may include unloading, drying, husking, and shelling seed corn.
o Operate and maintain a variety of equipment.
o Cross train in all areas of the Seed Plant and Farm.
o Assist with mapping software, field selection, variety placement, and field layout.
o Maintain a safe and clean work environment.
o Work all hours necessary during busy season.
o Comply with company and customer regulations, reporting, and policies.
o Coordinate and communicate crop needs with growers, farm manager, and seed production manager.
o Scout crops and update reporting on crop progress including seed quality, growth, and IPM functions.
o Assist the farming operations with plantings, cultivating, detasseling, fertilizing, and chemical needs.
o Continually monitor and report all health and safety deviations to supervisory/upper management.
Preferred Qualifications:
o Candidate be a self-motivated and detail-oriented person with a high drive to be able to focus on a high tempo environment with the ability to adapt to changing situations on a daily basis.
o 1 years of experience in seed corn production.
o Experienced with Farm machinery and forklifts.
o Working knowledge of chemicals, fertilizers, and weather effects on crops.
Electrical and fabricating experience is a plus
o Strong computer skills, especially Word and Excel.
o Knowledge of corn production with emphasis on processing and quality control.
o Prior Inventory management is a plus.
o Possess a valid driver’s license/ Available to travel to various crop areas.
o Excellent communication and organizational skills.
o Must be able to lift 45-75 pounds repeatedly throughout the day.
o Must have knowledge of health and safety standards pertaining to the agricultural infrastructure (training provided).
