Job Summary:
We are seeking a detail-oriented Partnership Accountant to support the accounting and reporting of complex partnership structures within a global commodities trading firm. This role will focus on partner allocations, capital account maintenance, and management incentive plans (MIPs) across multiple trading entities.
Job Responsibilities:
- Build a robust partnership accounting ledger and reporting tools within Hartree, with strong governance and controls, along with integration with general ledger and other systems (e.g., Kyriba for payments), within the company by implementing technology solutions:
- Define and develop scope and requirements
- Evaluate available off-the-shelf technology solutions
- Partner with Technology and other cross-functional stakeholders to implement the chosen solution
- Integrate into KPMG’s infrastructure for partnership accounting and tax reporting tools being implemented for Hartree
- Maintain and reconcile partner capital accounts across multiple legal entities and strategies
- Prepare and review partner allocations, including P&L, tax allocations, distributions, and other capital related activity
- Administer and track Management Incentive Plans (MIPs), including: allocation methodologies tied to trading performance, vesting schedules and participant tracking, accruals and payouts
- Calculate and process monthly/quarterly partner and MIP distributions
- Support the preparation of financial statements for partnerships (US GAAP / IFRS as applicable)
- Coordinate with front office, HR, tax, and legal teams on compensation structures, entity setup, and new deals
- Ensure accurate accounting treatment of MIP expenses, liabilities, and equity classifications
- Assist with trade-related accounting impacts flowing into partnership and MIP results (e.g., derivatives, physical commodities, hedging)
- Prepare partner and MIP participant reporting packages, including capital statements, incentive statements, and performance summaries
- Liaise with external auditors and support year-end audits, including compensation-related disclosures
- Partner with tax advisors on K-1s and MIP-related tax reporting
- Monitor compliance with partnership agreements and MIP plan documents
- Support system enhancements and process improvements related to partnership and incentive accounting
Job Requirements:
- Bachelor’s degree in accounting, finance, or related field (CPA preferred)
- 8-10 years of experience with 5 years of experience in partnership accounting, preferably within a hedge fund or asset management company
- Strong understanding of: Partnership allocations and capital accounting
- Experience with multi-entity structures and complex ownership frameworks
- Proficiency in Excel; experience with partnership accounting systems
- Familiarity with K-1 preparation and tax concepts is a plus
- High attention to detail and accuracy
- Ability to manage complex allocation models and large datasets
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills
- Effective communication across partners, finance, HR, trading, and external stakeholders
- Ability to work in a fast-paced, dynamic trading environment
Base salary: $225-285,000 plus bonus potential and competitive benefits
