Click on the following link to view the full pay range on the ESP Salary Schedule: https://www.hsd2.org/our-district/financial-transparency Job Summary: The Student Success Specialist works with students who need support with behavioral, attendance and academic needs. The Student Success Specialist incorporates intervention strategies that teach students more appropriate ways to deal with their behaviors and decision-making processes. These strategies include increased self-control, Social Emotional Learning (SEL), restorative practices, problem-solving skills, goal setting and replacement behavior supports. Students will be provided time for academic assignment completion. Additionally, the specialist will use available resources,and supports needed to maintain consistency, respect and support for students. The goal of the program is to provide the interventions necessary to have students return to their classrooms with completed assignments, a positive plan of action and acquire new skills to avoid and limit inappropriate behaviors. The specialist must be able to effectively communicate in oral and written format and be able to solve problems. The specialist will be trained in Social and Emotional Learning strategies, Trauma Responsive Practices, SBIRT, and Restorative Practices including running restorative circles to respond in a calm and organized manner with students. Specialists serve as liaisons among counseling, wraparound services, administration, and instructional staff to meet whole-child needs. They ensure the student success center remains a supportive, non-punitive space grounded in restorative practices. Key responsibilities include skill building, supporting attendance, monitoring behavior, setting goals, and helping students transition back into the learning environment. Essential Duties and Responsibilities: Provide a nurturing, supportive and positive classroom climate that encourages student responsibility, using positive motivation, clear classroom routines, challenging instructional strategies, restorative practices, SEL, and other effective classroom management techniques. Support students by providing a space and time for students to complete their academic work. Work with classroom teachers, administrative staff, general school staff, and parents to tailor services for students' specific needs including, behavioral intervention, parent contact, and individual and group support. Lead and work with students in activities to promote their physical, mental and social development and their school readiness. Monitor academic, behavioral and attendance progress and provide support throughout the weekly check-ins with students. Check-ins during lunch and other unstructured times throughout the day. Observe and prevent negative behavior through the use of redirection or other positive strategies. Collect data, like student on task behavior and attendance, along with other measurable elements to ensure the program and students are successful. Communicate with staff to ensure student success. Specialists are required to attend monthly PLC meetings, for data review, training and calibration of practice. Perform other duties as assigned per the direction of Wrap Around Services (All duties must be in alignment with EARSS and Medicaid). Education, Training and Experience: Associate degree or higher in mental health, crisis management, education and/or family systems of support. Two years' experience working with students from Kindergarten through 12th Grade. Academic experience in Mental Health, crisis management, and or family systems of support. Oral communication, and strong interpersonal skills. Basic math, writing, and academic skills. Ability to work with students with various backgrounds and abilities. Operating knowledge of personal computers, Microsoft Word, telephones, and printer preferred at hire. Ability to promote and follow Board of Education Coherent Governance Policies, District Policies and building and department procedures. Ability to communicate, interact and work effectively and cooperatively with people from diverse ethnic and educational backgrounds. Ability to recognize the importance of safety in the workplace, follow safety rules, practice safe work habits, utilize appropriate safety equipment and report unsafe conditions to the appropriate administrator. Criminal background check and District fingerprinting required.
