About the Role
We are seeking an experienced Certified Public Accountant (CPA) or Enrolled Agent (EA) to serve as General Manager of a growing public accounting practice. This leadership role is ideal for an experienced tax professional who enjoys building client relationships, mentoring staff, and helping shape the future of a successful CPA firm.
Responsibilities
- Oversee daily operations of the office
- Supervise, mentor, and support professional and administrative staff
- Foster a positive, collaborative, client-focused workplace culture
- Monitor workflow and ensure projects are completed accurately and on schedule
- Implement and improve office procedures and efficiencies
- Prepare complex federal and state tax returns for individuals, businesses, farms, trusts, and other entities
- Review tax returns prepared by staff for accuracy and compliance
- Conduct tax research and resolve complex tax issues
- Stay current on federal and state tax law changes
- Meet with clients to discuss tax matters and financial planning opportunities
- Develop and maintain long-term client relationships
- Provide proactive tax planning strategies throughout the year
- Respond to client questions and provide exceptional customer service
- Participate in recruiting, interviewing, hiring, and onboarding new employees
- Conduct employee evaluations and provide coaching and professional development
- Assist in establishing performance goals and expectations
- Support staff training and continuing education
- Identify opportunities to expand client relationships and firm services
- Represent the firm within the local business community
- Assist ownership with strategic planning and growth initiatives
Qualifications
- Active CPA or Enrolled Agent (EA) designation required
- Minimum 10 years of professional tax preparation experience in a public accounting firm
- Significant experience preparing farm income tax returns required
- Strong knowledge of individual, partnership, S corporation, C corporation, fiduciary, and nonprofit tax returns
- Excellent communication and client relationship skills
- Proven leadership and team management experience
- Ability to prioritize multiple deadlines in a fast-paced environment
- Experience with UltraTax CS (Thomson Reuters) and Onvio preferred but not required
