A Lead Summer Camp Counselor at Harrison County Parks and Recreation oversees daily operations, oversees camp counselors, and ensures camper safety and engagement. Acting as a liaison between counselors and HCPR staff, they lead activities, address behavioral issues, and facilitate programs for children, creating a positive, structured environment.
Key responsibilities include mentoring junior staff, acting as a team captain, and ensuring safety protocols are followed.
Key Responsibilities
· Staff Leadership: As team captain, oversee camp counselors.
· Camp Operations: Oversee daily check-ins/outs and activity planning.
· Safety & Welfare: Ensure all health, safety, and security protocols are met, including managing emergencies and minor injuries.
· Conflict Resolution: Address behavioral issues, camper anxieties, and conflicts.
· Communication: Act as a liaison between staff, parents, and HCPR staff regarding daily operations and incidents.
Qualifications
Experience: Prior experience working with children.
Certifications: Current First Aid/CPR certification required or ability to complete training prior to start of camp
Skills: Strong leadership, communication, and problem-solving skills; ability to work in a team and handle multiple tasks.
Physical Ability: Ability to stand, walk, hike, or engage in physical activities outdoors for long periods.
Common Requirements
· Commitment to the full-summer camp season mandatory
· Participation in staff training, meetings, and activity setup/cleanup.
· Flexibility to adapt to changing weather conditions (indoor/outdoor).
Pay: $14.00 per hour
