The Youth Prevention Program Staff Member is responsible for implementing a comprehensive, trauma-informed prevention program designed primarily for foster youth ages 8–14. This role supports youth through prevention education, mentorship, peer support groups, and community engagement activities that promote resilience, healthy decision-making, and confidence.
The Youth Prevention Program Staff Member will work closely with CASA and volunteers when assigned and will serve as a primary mentor for youth who do not have a CASA advocate. The ideal candidate is passionate about working with foster youth, skilled in relationship-building, and committed to breaking generational cycles of substance use through prevention, empowerment, and connection.
Key Responsibilities
Youth Mentorship & Support
- Provide consistent, supportive one-on-one mentorship to youth in foster care
- Collaborate with assigned CASA volunteers to support youth goals, participation, and progress
- Serve as the primary mentor for youth who do not have a CASA volunteer
- Build trusting, age-appropriate relationships using trauma-informed and strengths-based approaches
- Support youth in developing confidence, coping skills, and positive self-identity
Prevention Education
- Facilitate or coordinate prevention education activities focused on substance use prevention, healthy choices, emotional regulation, and life skills
- Deliver curriculum and programming in an engaging, developmentally appropriate manner
- Reinforce protective factors and resilience-building strategies for foster youth
- Adapt lessons and activities to meet the unique needs of youth in care
Group & Peer Support Activities
- Plan and facilitate group sessions that encourage peer connection, support, and belonging
- Promote positive group dynamics, teamwork, and respectful communication
- Support youth in developing social skills and healthy peer relationships
Community Engagement & Enrichment
- Coordinate and support youth participation in community events, enrichment activities, and experiential learning opportunities
- Ensure all activities are accessible and free of charge to participants
- Supervise youth during outings and events while maintaining safety and positive engagement
- Help youth gain new experiences and exposure beyond traditional classroom settings
Program Coordination & Collaboration
- Maintain regular communication with program leadership, CASA staff, volunteers, and community partners
- Assist with youth enrollment, attendance tracking, and documentation
- Support program evaluation by collecting data, observations, and feedback
- Participate in team meetings, trainings, and ongoing professional development
Safety, Ethics & Compliance
- Maintain appropriate boundaries, confidentiality, and ethical standards when working with youth
- Follow all child safety policies, mandatory reporting laws, and organizational procedures
- Ensure youth activities comply with grant requirements and program guidelines
Qualifications
Required:
- High school diploma or GED (Preference is given to candidates with a bachelor’s degree in social work, education, psychology, or a related discipline. A comparable blend of education and experience with children will also be considered).
- Experience working with youth, preferably foster youth or at-risk populations
- Strong interpersonal, communication, and facilitation skills
- Ability to build rapport with children ages 8–14
- Trauma-informed, culturally responsive approach to youth engagement
- Ability to work flexible hours, including evenings or weekends for events and meetings
- Valid driver’s license and reliable transportation
- Ability to pass background checks and required screenings
Preferred:
- Experience with prevention education, mentoring, or group facilitation
- Knowledge of the foster care system and CASA model
- CPR/First Aid certification (or willingness to obtain)

Pay: $19.00 per hour
Expected hours: 35.0 – 40.0 per week
