What you will do at Precinct One
The selected candidate (s) will provide a responsive service to all Precinct One constituents by installing and maintaining traffic, wayfinding, regulatory, instructional, and identification signage. You will install, inspect, maintain, and repair barricades, and striping on county roads and parking lots. You will operate a variety of equipment, including a sign machine, a wacker machine for sign installation, a power plant for electrical field use, and striping machines. You will also be responsible for performing routine daily maintenance on assigned equipment.
In addition, you will prepare, complete, and maintain assigned tasks and work logs, ensuring that documentation includes the location of signs, sign types, vertical and horizontal measurements of signs, times, dates, retro-reflectivity readings of signs, sign inspections, pavement markings, and work completed. You will also perform pre-trip vehicle and equipment inspections and safety checks before use; and clean vehicle and equipment after use and as needed.

- High School diploma or equivalent
- Valid Texas Driver's License
- Operator II - Three (3) years of experience in a sign shop or similar environment
- Operator III – Five (5) years of experience in a sign shop or similar environment
- Operator IV – Seven (7) years of experience in a sign shop or similar environment

The Roads & Bridges Department’s mission is to; offer a responsive public service while executing a high level of maintenance on Precinct One roads, bridges, hike and bike trails, and county right-of-ways in order to improve mobility and the quality of life for the constituents of Precinct One.
About Precinct One
There are four precincts in Harris County. The four elected commissioners, along with an elected county judge, serve as members of Harris County Commissioners Court, the administrative head of the county’s government.
With approximately 1.1 million residents, Harris County Precinct One is a diverse, urban precinct that covers 363 square miles. Precinct One’s multi-racial, multi-ethnic population is roughly 39 percent African American, 37 percent Latino, 18 percent Anglo, 5 percent Asian and 1 percent other.
Precinct One, which includes 876 miles of road, stretches south to Brazoria County and reaches into eastern and northern sections of Harris County. The Precinct’s territory includes a large section of Downtown Houston, including the Downtown Harris County Courthouse Complex, Toyota Center, Minute Maid Park and the BBVA Compass Stadium. Other notable landmarks include the 263-acre NRG Park Complex and the renowned Texas Medical Center.
