What are the responsibilities and job description for the CDL B Driver position at Harris Ace Hardware?
Title: CDL B Driver and Materials Handler/Forklift Operator
Shift: Must be available to come in as early as 6 am (prior to store opening) and occasionally work past store closing, which is 6 pm. Trucks do not typically operate on Saturday and store is closed on Sunday. Local delivery route.
Must pass pre-employment drug test to qualify for work.
You are not just a truck driver when you work for Harris Ace Hardware. You are part of a Team. If you are not driving, you are working in the lumber yard pulling orders, loading customers’ trucks and trailers, and/or operating a forklift. No sitting around on this job. There will be times that you may be asked to train another team member on delivery truck or forklift operations.
When operating as a driver:
- Daily inspection of truck for safety violations
- Accurately pull and stage building materials according to loading ticket – double-check for accuracy
- Load delivery truck ensuring load is safe and secure before leaving
- Professionally represent Harris ACE Hardware when delivering material (friendly, helpful, considerate, and respectful)
- Able to perform demanding, physical labor working with and lifting different types of building materials, including sheetrock
- Ability to work outdoors in hot and cold weather and occasionally in rain and snow and operate on uneven surfaces
- Operate vehicle in accordance with all OSHA (Occupational and Safety Health Act), DOT (Department of Transportation) and FMCSA (Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration) requirements, as well as all local; state; and federals laws
- Must complete and pass all onboarding exams for forklift, safety and driver
- DOT, FMCSA & OSHA knowledge and compliance
- Clean MVR
- Current DOT Medical Card
- Successfully complete pre-employment DOT drug screen and physical and background check (previous employment check, motor vehicle record review)
- Registered with FMCSA Clearinghouse
When operating as a lumber yard team member:
- Meet and greet contractors and do-it-yourselfers
- Accurately pull and stage materials to be picked up or delivered to ensure schedules are met
- Double-check work to ensure product pulled matches the ticket
- Contributes to maintaining the inventory in the yard by conducting cycle counts, keeping the yard organized, and ensuring the correct material is shipped and received
- Properly uses and maintains all equipment
- Cleans up and properly disposes of all debris
- Alert to things that need to be done and takes initiative to see they get done
- Other tasks as directed by the Yard Foreman, Store Manager or Assistant Store Manager
