The Harpeth Hall School seeks an upper school visual art teacher. The candidate should be a dynamic, creative, and collaborative teacher of visual art who is qualified to teach a wide range of upper school art courses. The current list of upper school visual arts offerings are: Art Foundations, Design Foundations, Ceramics I, II, III, Drawing I, II, III, History of American Cinema, Media Art I, II, Painting I, II, III, Photography I, II, Photography/ Media Arts III, Printmaking I, II, III, AP Art and Design, and AP Art History.

 

JOB DUTIES

  • Design, develop, and deliver quality art lessons that align with the scope and sequence of the visual arts curriculum
  • Teach the foundational visual art curriculum to primarily 9th grade students 
  • Teach other art courses among those listed above, as needed
  • Monitor the progress of students on a lesson by lesson basis, offering extra studio practice and instruction when needed.
  • Assess student learning and art progression using a variety of modalities and provide timely and thoughtful feedback.
  • Coordinate with other visual arts staff to organize student exhibitions to showcase artwork on campus and in the community
  •  Offer individual assistance outside of class to students who need extra help.
  •  Communicate with students, advisors, and parents through comments, emails, phone calls, conferences, and through Schoology, our online learning management system
  • Organize, plan, attend meetings with department members in the upper school, as well as those from the other departments and divisions. 
  • Perform other duties such as maintaining and updating the Schoology page daily, entering and reporting grades on Schoology, proctoring exams, documenting curriculum, and writing comments.
Qualifications:

The ideal applicant is an experienced teacher who has an enthusiasm for working with high school students in an all-girls environment, a commitment to innovative pedagogy, and excellent writing and communication skills. A master’s degree and teaching experience at either the high school or university level are preferred. The upper school Visual Arts Department works closely as a team to maintain and ensure a strong art curriculum. This position begins August 1, 2026.   This position would entail teaching 4 art classes, serving as an advisor, and contributing to the extracurricular programming of the school.
