Overview

The HarperCollins Information Center/Archives department operates within the Corporate Communications department of the company. Its primary responsibility encompasses the maintenance of both the Corporate Archive and Book Archive. The Corporate Archive comprises a diverse array of historical materials such as newsletters, original catalogs, author and building photographs, and various other documents, while the book archive holds nearly 200,000 physical books stored off-site. The HarperCollins Archives Digital Archives boasts over 15,000 artifacts, author profiles, archival catalogs, and additional resources. Our objective is to facilitate employee engagement with the rich heritage of HarperCollins, its affiliated imprints, companies, titles, and esteemed authors. As an intern within the Corporate Communications department and the HarperCollins Information Center/Archives, the student will be exposed to the day-to-day workings of a small corporate archive, as well as a Records Management program.

Responsibilities

  • Intern will assist with on-site digitization of corporate documents and archival materials to be added to our HarperCollins Digital Archives.
  • Intern will be assigned historical related tasks such as compiling a list of publication anniversaries and public domain titles. Intern will also assist with events newsletter creation.
  • Intern will assist in the cataloguing of New York Times best sellers and seasonal catalogs.
  • Intern will be given research and writing projects like Imprint Overviews and From the Archive spotlights for HarperConnect.

Qualifications

  • Candidates who are available to work in a full-time capacity in 2026 or 2027 are eligible for this internship; open to rising seniors, recent graduates, master’s students, or entry level candidates with up to two years of work experience. 
  • Candidates must be available to work 28 hours per week, Monday through Thursday, from June 8 to August 13, 2026, at our New York City office. This internship is compensated at a rate of $18 per hour.

  • Ideal candidates are either currently enrolled in or have recently graduated from an undergraduate or master’s program.
  • A passion for books is highly valued!  
  • Candidate for a graduate MLS Library or Archival degree is preferred, but all majors welcome; History or Literature major is a plus
  • Must have a curiosity and interest in learning about the rich history of HarperCollins, its authors and titles.
  • Must have strong interpersonal skills with the professionalism to communicate effectively with senior executives in a corporate environment.
  • An interest in learning more about Corporate Archives, and how the HarperCollins Archives supports HarperCollins employees
