Candidates must meet the following minimal criteria:
- Current Illinois dental license
- Current BLS/CPR certification
- Experience or familiarity with electronic patient record software
- Experience with routine administration of local anesthesia (field and nerve blocks)
Preferred:
- Experience or familiarity with Microsoft Office: Word & Excel
- Experience with digital radiographic image modalities
- Current or recent private practice experience
William Rainey Harper College’s Dental Hygiene seeks a licensed dentist to fill a part-time clinical position. The Illinois Dental Practice Act requires that a dentist is present in the dental hygiene clinic while the students are providing dental hygiene services.
We seek clinicians who are passionate about dentistry and dental hygiene and would enthusiastically enjoy adding the rigors of teaching in the academic setting to their professional practice. Our clinical program prepares dental hygiene graduates who can provide comprehensive dental hygiene care to adult patients with periodontal disease.
The primary responsibilities include:
- Assessment of patients’ readiness to undergo dental hygiene treatment; we provide care to many adult patients with moderate to advanced periodontal disease.
- Administration, or supervision of students’ performance in the administration of local anesthesia, both field and nerve blocks: IAN, PSA, IO, MSA, ASA, GP, and NP.
- Evaluation of students’ performance and competency related to dentition chartings, sealant applications, study models, pain management procedures, and radiographic image captures and interpretation.

HOURS:
Probably Wednesdays beginning spring semester 2025 and as a substitute during other weekdays as needed.
7:45 am -5:45 pm
Candidates will need to be available to attend at least two annual department meetings and must be willing to actively participate in program hosted and/or other recommended professional development activities/courses to maintain compliance with the Commission on Dental Accreditation’s accreditation standards. The standards require faculty in dental hygiene programs to maintain current background in educational theory, methodologies and concepts related to teaching assignments, (as well as required continuing education for licensure maintenance).
