Staff / Principal Engineer, AI Systems
Oakland, CA (Hybrid)
We are partnered with a profitable healthcare technology company that has built one of the largest video education platforms for physicians in the US.
The platform combines healthcare, media, education, and AI. Doctors use the platform to share educational content with other doctors, while pharmaceutical and medical device companies use it to reach highly targeted healthcare audiences.
The company is investing heavily in AI and is looking to hire a founding-level engineering leader to work directly alongside the CTO.
The role requires someone who enjoys building from scratch, solving complex technical problems, and owning work end-to-end. The engineer hired will help shape new AI-powered systems across personalization, workflow automation, engagement, and internal knowledge systems. The environment is lean, highly technical, and product focused. The company is profitable, growing quickly, and operating with a strong builder mentality.
Responsibilities:
• Build AI and agentic workflow systems using internal and medical datasets
• Design backend systems and scalable architecture
• Develop product features from idea through production
• Build personalization, engagement, and growth-focused systems
• Partner closely with engineering teams across the US and Europe
Tech stack:
• Python / Django
• React
• AWS
• PostgreSQL
• OpenAI / GenAI tooling
Requirements:
• Strong backend or full stack engineering experience
• Deeply hands-on technical background
• Builder mentality with strong product thinking
• Experience designing systems and shipping production code
• Comfortable working in smaller, fast-moving environments
• Interest in AI systems, workflow orchestration, or intelligent products
Preferred experience:
• Healthcare or medical data exposure
• Experience building GenAI products or agentic systems
Compensation:
• $280K–$350K base
• Bonus equity
Hybrid schedule:
3 days onsite in Oakland (Mon/Wed/Fri) with morning collaboration overlap starting around 8–9 AM PT.
