What are the responsibilities and job description for the Senior Industrial Engineer position at Harmony Technology Services?
Harmony Technology Services (HTS), founded in 2011, is a technology services and business solutions provider delivering state of the art technology services. We deliver a wide range of tailored solutions to our customers with one goal in mind: optimize organization capability and maximize operational efficiencies through automation and data management.
We are seeking an experienced Senior Industrial Engineer to lead continuous improvement, 5S, and Lean initiatives across assembly and heavy equipment fabrication operations. The ideal candidate brings more than 10 years of senior leadership experience driving Lean transformations, process optimization, and operational excellence in complex manufacturing environments. This role is responsible for developing and sustaining a culture of continuous improvement that delivers measurable gains in productivity, quality, safety, cost, and lead time.
Key Responsibilities
- Lead the design, implementation, and sustainment of 5S (Sort, Set in Order, Shine, Standardize, Sustain) programs across assembly lines and heavy fabrication areas, including large-component welding, machining, and final assembly.
- Champion Lean manufacturing principles and tools, including value stream mapping, kaizen events, standard work, visual management, waste elimination (TIMWOOD), SMED, TPM, and line balancing.
- Drive process improvements in heavy equipment fabrication and assembly environments, focusing on cycle-time reduction, material flow, workplace organization, ergonomics, and capacity optimization.
- Lead cross-functional continuous improvement teams and mentor production supervisors, engineers, and operators in Lean and problem-solving methodologies.
- Conduct time studies, process capability analyses, root-cause investigations, and data-driven decision making to improve OEE, first-pass yield, and throughput.
- Develop and implement standard operating procedures, work instructions, and visual controls that support consistent execution and training.
- Partner with production, quality, supply chain, maintenance, and engineering teams to eliminate constraints and improve end-to-end value streams.
- Establish and track key performance indicators, present results to senior leadership, and ensure sustained gains after improvement events.
- Manage improvement project portfolios, including scoping, resource planning, cost-benefit analysis, and ROI tracking.
- Train and coach employees at all levels on Lean thinking, 5S discipline, and structured problem-solving.
- Support capital project planning and layout optimization for fabrication and assembly areas.
Required Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in Industrial Engineering, Manufacturing Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, or a closely related field.
- Minimum of 10 years of progressive industrial engineering or continuous improvement experience, including senior leadership responsibility for Lean and 5S programs.
- Demonstrated success leading Lean and 5S initiatives in assembly and heavy equipment fabrication environments (examples include construction equipment, agricultural machinery, mining equipment, or similar large-scale metal fabrication and assembly operations).
- Strong working knowledge of Lean tools and methodologies with a proven track record of delivering sustainable results.
- Experience improving processes involving welding, large-component assembly, material handling of heavy parts, and multi-station fabrication or assembly lines.
- Excellent leadership, facilitation, change-management, and communication skills with the ability to influence at all organizational levels.
- Proficiency in data analysis, Microsoft Office (especially Excel), and manufacturing systems/ERP platforms.
Preferred Qualifications
- Master’s degree in Industrial Engineering, Engineering Management, or related field.
- Lean Six Sigma Green Belt or Black Belt certification.
- Experience with layout design tools, simulation software, or CAD for process and facility planning.
- Background supporting new product introduction or major capital projects in heavy manufacturing.
- Prior experience coaching or developing other engineers and supervisors in Lean practices.
Working Conditions
This role is primarily on-site in a manufacturing environment and requires regular presence on the shop floor, including fabrication and assembly areas. Candidates should be comfortable working around heavy equipment, welding operations, and large assemblies. Occasional travel to other facilities may be required. This position is ideal for a hands-on industrial engineering leader who thrives on driving measurable operational improvements in demanding heavy manufacturing settings.
