- Verify insurance coverage, obtain prior authorization, and ensure all referrals meet managed care requirements.
- Maintain accurate and detailed medical records, including documentation of referrals, authorizations, and correspondence in electronic health records (EHR) systems.
- Ensure compliance with HIPAA regulations and clinical confidentiality policies when handling sensitive patient information.
- Utilize medical coding skills such as CPT (Current Procedural Terminology), ICD-9, ICD-10, and ICD coding to accurately document diagnoses and procedures related to referrals.
- Communicate effectively with patients regarding referral procedures, appointment scheduling, and insurance requirements to enhance their experience.
- Collaborate with medical office staff to verify insurance eligibility, process claims, and support billing processes related to referrals.
Requirements
- Proven experience in a medical office setting or healthcare environment with knowledge of health insurance policies and managed care processes.
- Familiarity with electronic health records (EHR) or electronic medical records (EMR) management systems.
- Strong understanding of medical terminology, medical coding (CPT, ICD-9/10), and insurance verification procedures.
- Knowledge of HIPAA regulations and clinical confidentiality policies to safeguard patient information at all times.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office applications for documentation and communication purposes.
- Excellent customer service skills with the ability to communicate clearly and professionally with patients, providers, and insurance representatives.
- Ability to multitask efficiently in a fast-paced environment while maintaining attention to detail.
