About the Role
HARMAN has always placed great value on the design and execution of its products and services. In 2018, the three internal design groups across the 4 divisions were reorganized into a single agency-model design organization. This design organization is named “Huemen”. Huemen will continue to deliver and lead the world-class design across all of HARMAN in the disciplines of Industrial Design, User Interface/Interaction Design, Visual Design, Packaging Design, and User Experience Design, as well Marketing Services and Future Experiences in Auto and Home. Your Team
We are seeking a talented individual to elevate the practice of research with creative but rigorous qualitative, quantitative, and/or design research methods across a variety of industries and product categories. We practice a user-centered, collaborative, and iterative design process with a focus on simplicity, trust, seamlessness, and humanization.
What You Will Do
A research candidate must be an excellent communicator, knowledgeable about product design, passionate about understanding people, curious about the relationship between technology and society, and a great collaborator.
- Lead design discovery phases of projects by guiding empathetic research activities such as user interviews and observation, benchmarking, journey mapping, persona development, and design thinking workshops
- Work closely with stakeholders to identify research questions
- Conduct a variety of research methods, including literature reviews, qualitative interviews, surveys, generative and evaluative user testing, heuristic evaluations, and others
- Design and execute studies that address both user behavior and attitudes, using the right methodology for the right questions
- Analyze qualitative & quantitative data
- Operationalize research insights into actionable, measurable UX goals
- Effectively communicate findings and recommendations to stakeholders
- Self-motivated: Work resourcefully in a fast-paced environment with moderate guidance, effectively using research methods and resources
- Brand steward: Understand brand vision and impact for all products and services
- Experience evangelist: Maintain a knowledge base of the latest experience trends and implement best practices for user-centered design
- Technology-aware: Continuously monitor advances in technology, seeking opportunities to enhance human experiences
What You Need
- 2-5+ years of experience with user research of complex digital interfaces and physical products
- BA/BS in a human behavior related field, such as human-computer interaction, psychology, sociology
- Exemplary verbal and written communication skills
- Demonstrated ability to communicate clearly and concisely to peers and executive leadership in a customer-client setting
- Proven project management skills
- Strong attention to detail and creative problem-solver
What is Nice to Have
- Master’s Degree in Media/Digital Arts, Human-Computer Interaction (HCI), Psychology, or equivalent training
- Demonstrated customer/client relationship experience for a creative design agency
- Experience with product development of technologies such as Connected Car, voice assistants, AR/VR
- Human Factors or Ergonomic expertise
- Published articles related to the field of design research in a technical conference or professional organization

- Be willing to travel up to 10%, domestic onlyOR domestic and international travel
- Be willing to work in an office in Novi, Michigan, Mountain View, California, or Seattle, Washington
