The Assistant Program Director supports the Program Director in the management, coordination, and delivery of high-quality substance abuse treatment services. This position assists with daily program operations, staff support, compliance activities, and workflow management, while also carrying a clinical caseload. This role also provides direct counseling services, including assessments, treatment planning, individual/group therapy, and case management.
RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Assist the Program Director in implementing the program’s vision, goals, and strategic initiatives.
- Help develop, maintain, and improve policies, procedures, and workflows to promote program efficiency and quality care.
- Support the Program Director in managing program workflow, scheduling, and operational needs.
- Support communication with external partners, referral sources, and community agencies.
- Support staff onboarding, training, and development as directed by the Program Director.
- Assist with staff performance monitoring and provide feedback to the Program Director as needed.

- Ensure the delivery of evidence-based, trauma-informed, and culturally competent substance abuse treatment services.
- Monitor the development and implementation of individualized treatment plans, case management services, and aftercare planning.
- Assist in monitoring compliance with HIPAA, state/federal regulations, and accreditation standards (e.g., CARF).
- Participate in internal audits, chart reviews, and quality assurance activities.
- Support corrective actions and process improvements identified through audits or assessments.
- Help maintain accurate, confidential records and ensure documentation meets regulatory standards.
- Track program indicators and provide data or reports to the Program Director for analysis.
- Carry a designated caseload of clients and provide individual and group counseling services.
- Conduct assessments, treatment planning, progress reviews, and discharge planning.
- Deliver evidence-based, trauma-informed, and culturally responsive care.
- Assist in crisis intervention, safety planning, and care coordination.
- Support client engagement and retention by fostering meaningful therapeutic relationships.
- Ensure complete, accurate, and timely clinical documentation in accordance with agency, state, and federal requirements.
EDUCATION/WORK EXPERIENCE:
- Bachelor’s degree required; Master’s degree in counseling, social work, psychology, or related behavioral health field preferred.
- Prior leadership or supervisory experience strongly preferred.
- Valid state licensure or certification eligible for substance abuse counseling (CADC, CAADC, LLMSW, LMSW, LPC, LLPC, etc.).
- Experience providing clinical services in a substance abuse or behavioral health setting.
- Prior leadership or supervisory experience preferred but not required.
- Strong understanding of clinic operations, intake processes, treatment planning, and recovery-oriented approaches.
- Knowledge of HIPAA, State & Federal regulations, and CARF standards.
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office and electronic health record systems.

- Ability to manage multiple priorities, work independently, and support a team environment.
