Job Summary
We are seeking a dedicated and detail-oriented Pharmacy Technician to join our growing team. The ideal candidate will play a crucial role in supporting pharmacists in delivering high-quality patient care. They will help keep our workflow running smoothly—owning production, inventory management, patient intake & phones, and triage of requests to the right team member. You’ll help deliver fast, high-quality service and contibute to providing safe and effective pharmaceuticals to our patients.
Responsibilities
- Assist pharmacists in preparing and dispensing medications accurately and efficiently.
- Provide exceptional patient service by answering questions and addressing concerns regarding medications.
- Perform intake procedures, including gathering patient information and verifying medication orders.
- Maintain accurate records of medication administration and patient care activities.
- Collaborate with healthcare professionals to ensure optimal patient outcomes in critical care settings.
- Stay informed about medical terminology and pharmacy practices to enhance service delivery.
- Support inventory management by monitoring stock levels and assisting with ordering supplies as needed.
- Prepare, fill, and label prescriptions per SOPs; perform final packaging and staging for pickup/delivery.
- Print/fold patient info sheets; verify directions/aux labels; maintain clean, organized workstations.
- If applicable: Assist with non-sterile compounding (weigh/measure, log components, clean equipment) under pharmacist supervision.
- Inventory
- Receive, check-in, and shelve orders; rotate stock (FEFO), track expirations, and process returns.
- Monitor minimum/maximum levels; create purchase requests; reconcile invoices; reduce out-of-stocks and waste.
- Maintain accurate counts for fast-movers, refrigerated items, and controlled substances (per policy).
- Answer phones promptly; complete intake for new patients, verify demographics/insurance, and capture allergies.
- Process e-scripts/faxes; gather missing information; collect copays; schedule pickups/deliveries.
- Provide warm, professional customer service; escalate clinical questions to the pharmacist.
- Prioritize tasks (STAT, time-sensitive therapies, delivery cutoffs).
- Route prior auths, refill requests, clarification calls, and provider messages to the appropriate queue/person.
- Track open tickets to closure; communicate proactively with patients and providers.
- Follow all SOPs, HIPAA, and Board of Pharmacy rules; document thoroughly in the pharmacy system and logs.
- Maintain temperature logs, daily checklists, and cleaning schedules.
- Support quality initiatives, incident reporting, and continuous improvement.
Skills
- Required: Active state Pharmacy Technician registration/licensure in good standing.
- Experience: 1–2 years in community or independent pharmacy (high-volume preferred).
- Strong patient service skills with a focus on compassionate patient care.
- Computer skills: Comfortable with pharmacy software and general tools (e.g., PioneerRx/Liberty/BestRx or similar, eRx portals, inventory systems, Excel/Google Sheets, email, scanners).
- Accurate data entry and label verification; strong phone etiquette and troubleshooting skills.
- Able to stand, reach, and lift up to ~25–30 lbs; excellent attention to detail and time management.
- Preferred: National certification (CPhT) and non-sterile or sterile compounding experience.
