What are the responsibilities and job description for the Project Assistant position at Harbor Lane Senior Concierge?
Part-Time | Project-Based | Houston Area
About the Role
Harbor Lane is looking for a dependable, hands-on Project Assistant to support a variety of client projects in homes throughout the greater Houston area.
Our work may include organizing and decluttering a home, preparing for a move or downsizing project, helping reset a space, coordinating donations, or assisting with other practical household needs. Some projects may last a single day, while others may take place over several sessions.
As a Project Assistant, you will work directly with clients and, depending on the project, either independently or alongside other Harbor Lane team members. Because much of our work takes place during meaningful or sometimes stressful seasons in a client's life, how you show up matters just as much as the work you complete.
We're looking for someone who is organized, observant, compassionate, comfortable working with their hands, and able to follow a project plan while adapting to what is happening in the home.
What You'll Do
Depending on the project, responsibilities may include:
- Assist with organizing, decluttering, downsizing, and household reset projects
- Work side by side with clients to sort rooms, closets, garages, storage areas, and other household spaces
- Help sort belongings into categories such as keep, gift, sell, donate, relocate, and release
- Follow project plans, checklists, schedules, and client-specific instructions
- Help create practical organization systems that clients can realistically maintain
- Organize and reset completed spaces so they are functional, comfortable, and visually clear
- Assist with preparing belongings for moves, donations, resale, hauling, or disposal
- Pack, label, sort, and organize household items when required for a project
- Prepare donation items and complete donation runs when needed
- Track and organize donation receipts and other project documentation
- Help identify items or situations that may require additional Harbor Lane services or outside service providers
- Photograph project progress and before-and-after results with the client's permission
- Keep project materials, supplies, and work areas organized
- Communicate project progress, questions, and important information back to the Harbor Lane team
- Help keep projects moving efficiently while maintaining attention to detail
- Maintain a calm, respectful, and professional presence in every client's home
- Protect client privacy and treat personal belongings and information with discretion
- Serve as a trusted representative of Harbor Lane when interacting with clients and their families
What We're Looking For
You do not need formal experience in professional organizing, senior move management, or home services.
We are looking for someone who enjoys hands-on work, notices details, and takes pride in helping people make their homes and lives easier to manage.
You may be a great fit if you:
- Enjoy organizing, sorting, problem-solving, and creating order
- Can walk into a cluttered or busy environment and begin identifying what needs to happen next
- Are comfortable working on different types of projects rather than doing the exact same task every day
- Have patience with clients who may need additional time to make decisions about their belongings
- Understand that sorting, downsizing, and transitioning a home can be emotional
- Never pressure, rush, or judge a client
- Bring warmth, patience, and professionalism to your interactions
- Are comfortable spending several hours working closely with the same client or family
- Can work independently when needed without constant supervision
- Work well as part of a small project team
- Take initiative and know when to ask questions
- Can follow an established project plan while adapting when circumstances change
- Pay close attention to details and instructions
- Treat everything you see or hear inside a client's home with discretion
- Are dependable and arrive prepared and on time
- Communicate clearly and professionally with clients, family members, vendors, and the Harbor Lane team
- Are comfortable using checklists, schedules, photographs, and mobile tools to document project progress
Experience in organizing, moving, packing, home services, hospitality, caregiving, staging, retail operations, event setup, or other hands-on service roles is helpful but not required.
Physical & Other Requirements
This is an active, hands-on position. Project Assistants must be able to:
- Lift and carry up to 25 pounds, with or without reasonable accommodation
- Stand and walk for extended periods
- Bend, reach, kneel, and perform repetitive movements throughout a project
- Safely use a standard household step stool
- Pack, unpack, sort, organize, and move lightweight household items
- Work in homes that may be dusty, cluttered, heavily furnished, or in varying states of repair
- Have a valid driver's license
- Have reliable transportation and current auto insurance
- Be willing and able to travel to project locations throughout the greater Houston area
- Be willing and able to make donation runs, including transporting boxes and bags in a personal vehicle when needed
- Have a smartphone and be comfortable using mobile apps for schedules, photographs, checklists, and project communication
- Be authorized to work in the United States
Employment offers are contingent upon successful completion of a background check.
Schedule & Hours
This is a part-time, project-based position rather than a traditional fixed weekly schedule.
Most projects:
- Take approximately four to eight hours in a day
- Occur Monday through Friday
- Generally take place between 8:00 AM and 4:00 PM
- May occasionally take place on Saturdays
- May be completed in one day or across several sessions
Weekly hours will vary based on client and project volume, and there is no guaranteed minimum number of hours.
