What are the responsibilities and job description for the Home Organizing Specialist position at Harbor Lane Senior Concierge?
Part-Time | Project-Based | Houston Area
About the Role
Not every family we help is moving. Many just need a home that works again: a garage they can park in, a closet they can use, a house that's grown too full to manage. These are shorter projects, often a single day or a few sessions, and you're frequently the only Harbor Lane person in the home. That makes you the whole experience for that client.
What You'll Do
- Work side by side with clients to sort, declutter, and organize rooms, closets, garages, storage areas, and other household spaces
- Guide the process at the client's pace while respecting that every decision about their belongings is ultimately theirs
- Help sort belongings into categories such as keep, gift, sell, donate, and release
- Create practical organization systems that clients can realistically maintain after the project is complete
- Organize and reset finished spaces so they are functional, comfortable, and visually clear
- Prepare donation items and transport donation loads when needed
- Track and organize donation receipts for clients and their families
- Help identify items that may require additional services, such as resale, hauling, or disposal
- Photograph before-and-after results with the client's permission
- Follow project plans, checklists, schedules, and client-specific instructions
- Communicate project progress and important information back to the Harbor Lane team
- Maintain a calm, respectful, and professional presence throughout each project
- Serve as the trusted face of Harbor Lane when working independently in a client's home
What We're Looking For
You do not need to have a formal background in professional organizing, but you should genuinely enjoy creating order and helping people make their homes easier to live in.
We're looking for someone who:
- Can walk into a cluttered room and begin seeing how the space could function better
- Genuinely enjoys organizing, sorting, and creating practical systems
- Has patience with clients who may need additional time to make decisions about their belongings
- Understands that decluttering can be emotional and never pressures or judges a client
- Is comfortable spending several hours working closely with the same person
- Brings warmth, patience, and professionalism to every interaction
- Can work independently without a supervisor constantly on site
- Takes initiative and knows how to keep a project moving forward
- Pays close attention to details
- Treats everything seen or discussed inside a client's home with complete discretion
- Is dependable and arrives prepared and on time
- Communicates clearly and professionally with clients, family members, and the Harbor Lane team
- Can follow an established project plan while adapting when circumstances change
Physical & Other Requirements
This is an active, hands-on position. Team members must be able to:
- Lift and carry up to 25 pounds, with or without reasonable accommodation
- Stand and walk for extended periods
- Bend, reach, kneel, and perform repetitive movements throughout a project
- Safely use a standard household step stool
- Work in homes that may be dusty, cluttered, heavily furnished, or in varying states of repair
- Have a valid driver's license
- Have reliable transportation and current auto insurance
- Be willing and able to make donation runs, including transporting boxes and bags in your personal vehicle
- Have a smartphone and be comfortable using mobile apps for schedules, photographs, checklists, and project communication
- Be authorized to work in the United States
Employment offers are contingent upon successful completion of a background check.
Schedule & Hours
This is a part-time, project-based position rather than a traditional fixed weekly schedule.
Most projects:
- Take approximately four to eight hours in a day
- Occur Monday through Friday
- Generally take place between 8:00 AM and 4:00 PM
- May occasionally take place on Saturdays
- May be completed in one day or across several sessions
Weekly hours will vary based on client and project volume, and there is no guaranteed minimum number of hours.
