Senior Analyst - Investment Risk and Data Science

Harbor Capital Advisors, Inc.
York, NY Full Time
POSTED ON 4/8/2026
AVAILABLE BEFORE 6/6/2026

Summary

The Senior Analyst will be responsible for analyzing portfolio performance, characteristics, and risk of existing Harbor strategies, supporting due diligence on prospective strategies, and producing analytics used in external investment content. The role will also build and enhance tools and workflows that make complex analytics interpretable and actionable. The ideal candidate is a self-starter who acts with agency, takes ownership of ideas, and moves work forward with limited direction. The Senior Analyst position is on the Investment Risk and Data Science (IRDS) team, part of the broader Investment Research team and reports to the Head of IRDS.

The IRDS team is responsible for monitoring the performance, risk, and positioning of all Harbor investment strategies while analyzing prospective partners and supporting the development of new products. They deliver timely, decision-ready portfolio analyses to the Investment Research Team and create insightful content for Harbor’s Distribution team and clients. Additionally, the team designs and maintains analytical tools and data-driven processes that empower non-technical colleagues and enhance decision-making across the firm.

This position is a hybrid-opportunity that is based in either our New York, Boston, or Chicago office.

Key Responsibilities

  • Develop and clearly articulate insights using qualitative and quantitative inputs from portfolio management teams, other researchers, market data, analytical tools, and databases

  • Collaborate with other Analysts and Research Directors on recurring analyses of existing subadvisors and underwriting of prospective subadvisors
  • Identify gaps or inefficiencies in current analytics for measuring and reporting strategy performance, characteristics, and risk, and champion improvements with ownership and independence
  • Create or enhance analytical processing using Python, R, SQL, or other code-based solutions, with a focus on scalable tools that can be used by non-technical teams
  • Proactively create and share insights on portfolio positioning and changes in risk, translating complex analysis into clear and accessible language
  • Search for and implement improved methods for identifying, evaluating, and communicating sources of alpha from active management
  • Prepare accurate, time sensitive analytical reports for Harbor’s board of directors and internal investment committees
