Financial Coach & Benefits Planner - BBP

Harbor is seeking a Financial Coach and Benefits Planner to join the Ohio Means Jobs Lucas County team! This position provides individualized financial well-being coaching and benefits planning support to individuals receiving benefits through Job and Family Services, Opportunities for Ohioans with Disabilities, and the Social Security Administration.

Position is full time, 40 hours per week.

REQUIREMENTS 

Education:  

• Associate’s degree in business, finance, or accounting. 
• High school diploma or GED equivalent. 

Experience:  

• Experience in in financial coaching, benefits planning, counseling, social services, case management, vocational services, or related as follows: 
• Associate’s degree: minimum of 2 years of relevant experience 
• No degree: minimum of 3 years of relevant experience 

Licensure and Certifications:  

• Certified Work Incentive Planner program must be started within 12 months of hire, if not already credentialed.  
• Must have a valid driver’s license, acceptable driving record, and show proof of personal auto insurance policy if driving is required for the position. 

Preferred Qualifications:  

• Experience with case management systems, participant documentation, benefits-related documentation, and outcome tracking. 
• Experience in healthcare, nonprofit, workforce development, vocational rehabilitation, social services, or a large organizational environment. 
• Financial coaching certification, benefits planning credential, Certified Financial Capabilities Practitioner credential, crisis intervention training, or related credential. 
• Experience with Microsoft Word, scheduling systems, data entry systems, and related technology. 
• Knowledge of confidentiality standards and applicable privacy requirements related to participant information. 

RESPONSIBILITIES 

Essential Functions and Primary Responsibilities: 

1. Provides individualized, one-on-one financial coaching addressing budgeting, debt management, savings strategies, credit building, benefits utilization, work incentives, and financial goal setting. 
2. Conducts comprehensive financial assessments and develops personalized action plans with measurable goals. 
3. Provides benefits planning support by helping participants understand the impact of employment, income, and earned wages on public benefits and related resources. 
4. Assists participants in understanding and maximizing available organizational, public, and community-based benefits and resources. 
5. Provides crisis-focused financial coaching, stabilization planning, and resource navigation for participants experiencing urgent financial concerns. 
6. Facilitates financial well-being workshops, master classes, group education sessions, and other participant learning opportunities. 
7. Maintains accurate and timely documentation, scheduling records, service notes, outcome tracking, and other required program documentation. 
8. Collaborates with program leadership, internal departments, funding sources, referral sources, and external partners to ensure coordinated, high-quality service delivery. 
9. Connects participants to internal resources and external community supports that address financial, basic needs, employment, benefits, and well-being concerns. 
10. Participates in outreach events, informational sessions, health fairs, and program promotion activities to increase awareness and engagement. 
11. Collects, tracks, and reports participant success metrics to support program reporting, quality improvement, and continuous program development (e.g., changes in credit score, federal poverty level, reduced debt, increased savings, etc.). 
12. Maintains confidentiality and protects participant information in accordance with applicable privacy standards, organizational policies, and professional expectations. 
13. Supports administrative functions including data entry, scheduling, communications, file maintenance, and preparation of program materials. 
14. Assists in developing financial education materials, benefits planning tools, coaching resources, participant guides, and related communication materials. 
15. Represents the program professionally at internal meetings, partner meetings, community events, and other outreach opportunities.

Working Conditions:  

• Works in an office, community, and field-based environment. 
• May travel to meetings, outreach events, partner locations, participant appointments, or community-based activities. 
• Regularly handles confidential participant information and must maintain privacy and confidentiality standards. 
• May support participants experiencing urgent financial stress, crisis-related needs, or complex benefit concerns. 
• This position is union. Union eligibility applies only to full-time or part-time hires; contingent or temporary appointments are not covered by the union, even if the position is otherwise unionized.
