What are the responsibilities and job description for the Front of House Manager position at Happy Bellies Bake Shop?
Happy Bellies Bake Shop is growing, and we're looking for a hands-on Front of House Manager who loves people, enjoys leading a team, and gets excited about making things better.
This role is a mix of people leadership, day-to-day front-of-house operations, and projects that improve the customer and team experience. We're looking for someone who can lead from the floor when the team needs them, but can also step away from the floor, take ownership of a project, research solutions, organize the details, and help bring an idea to life.
You'll work closely with our owner and operations manager to lead the front team while helping us continue to improve how Happy Bellies operates as we grow.
What You'll Do
- Lead, coach, and support our front-of-house team and shift leads
- Set the tone for an exceptional customer experience
- Build consistency and accountability across the front team
- Train and develop team members
- Be present on the floor and jump in when the team needs you
- Handle day-to-day problem solving and make confident decisions
- Help with scheduling, staffing, training, and team communication
- As you become established in the role, take increasing ownership of team performance, including coaching, feedback, accountability, and employee development
- Participate in interviewing, hiring, and onboarding front-of-house team members
- Identify areas where our front-of-house systems could work better
- Take ownership of projects that improve the customer and employee experience
- Research solutions, organize details, communicate with vendors when needed, and help move projects from idea to implementation
- Help us implement new systems and technology as the business grows, including things like digital menu displays, ordering improvements, customer flow, and other front-of-house initiatives
- Work closely with the owner and operations manager on new ideas and improvements
- Take increasing ownership of front-of-house operations as you grow into the role
Who We're Looking For
You might be a great fit if you:
- Genuinely love working with people
- Have previous leadership or management experience
- Lead by example rather than from the sidelines
- Have experience coaching, training, or developing others and are comfortable having direct conversations when expectations aren't being met
- Enjoy coaching people and working independently on projects
- See a problem and naturally start thinking about how to solve it
- Can take an idea, figure out the next steps, and keep it moving without needing constant direction
- Are comfortable researching options and learning things you haven't done before
- Are organized and can manage multiple priorities
- Take initiative and follow through
- Stay calm and solutions-focused when things get busy
- Are comfortable making decisions and taking ownership
- Are flexible and understand that leadership sometimes means being there when your team needs you
- Want a role you can grow with, not simply another job
Previous experience in hospitality, retail, food service, customer service, or another fast-paced, people-focused environment is a plus. Restaurant management experience is not required. We're much more interested in finding a strong leader who knows how to work with people, take ownership, and get things done.
Schedule & Growth
This position will begin at approximately 30 to 32 hours per week, with the potential to grow into a full-time salaried leadership position as responsibilities grow and the right person becomes established in the role.
The schedule is primarily Tuesday through Saturday. Hours will vary based on the needs of the business and team, so we're looking for someone who has flexibility and understands that leadership in a growing business doesn't always fit perfectly into the same schedule every week.
Starting pay: $22/hour
The first several weeks will be heavily focused on learning Happy Bellies from the inside out, including our customers, team, products, standards, opening and closing routines, and day-to-day operations. From there, you'll begin taking on more leadership responsibilities, team development, and ownership of front-of-house projects and improvements.
