Position Overview:
The Welding Engineer is responsible for development and execution of welding and fabrication program required to meet ABS and NAVSEA marine construction projects of the various HDUSA and HPSI programs. Required to develop and gain approval of welding Procedure qualifications and welder performance qualifications. Will supervise various levels for the testing and inspection required to meet Mil Spec fabrications for marine vessels. In addition will support welding and qualification requirements for HPSI commercial workforce.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
- Develop and conduct testing of welding procedures and qualifications to meet ABS and Mil spec fabrication
- Develop and administer welder workmanship fabrication and inspection programs
- Conduct auditing and surveillance of welder performance program to meet contract requirement
- Interact with surveyors and customer QA management.
- Respond to customer requests and surveillance to include root cause and corrective action response to non-conformances
- Supports management of major subcontracts and other supplier relationships through auditing and monitoring of processes.
- Supports proposal development for defense contracts.
- Supports contract and subcontract development, auditing and surveillance.
- Experience with interpreting and executing Military Standards as prescribed within DoD contracts.
- Must be able to multi-task and execute multiple actions across various functional areas simultaneously.
- Support research and development of potential new suppliers and technology through participation in conferences and other supplier events, meetings and visits, including some travel.
- All other duties as assigned
Qualifications/ Experience:
- 5 years of industry-related experience
- 3 years in performing Welding development and management to NAVSEA Tech Pub S9074-AQ-GIB-010/248 Requirements for Welding and Brazing Procedure and Performance Qualification program management related tasks required.
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
- Excellent organizational skills and attention to detail.
- Proficient with Microsoft Office Suite or related software, including Microsoft Excel.
- Understanding of Nondestructive NDT test methods
Education:
- Bachelor’s degree in Welding Engineering or Technical degree with experience in robotic welding equipment
- NDT Level III experience preferred.
Special Knowledge / Skills:
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
- Extensive knowledge of the principles, procedures, and best practices in the industry.
- Professional experience in program management roles.
Physical Demands / Work Environment:
While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to talk and hear and use hands to finger, handle, and feel. The employee is required to reach with hands and arms and have adequate mobility to stand, walk, sit, stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl. The employee must occasionally lift and/or move up to fifty (50) pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision and ability to adjust focus. Ability to travel.
