Hannum Street Veterinary Clinic is a brand new, privately and locally owned small animal hospital opening in Alcoa, TN. We're looking for an experienced, Licensed Veterinary Technician to be a cornerstone of our clinical team.

SCHEDULE & HOURS

  • Monday – Friday only | 7:30 AM – 5:00 PM (1-hour lunch)
  • 4.5-day work week
  • No evenings, no weekends, no holidays, no on-call
  • No boarding, no grooming

RESPONSIBILITIES

As a Licensed Veterinary Technician at HSVC, you will work at the full scope of your licensure in a collaborative, low-stress environment:

Patient Assessment & Nursing Care

  • Perform thorough patient triage and assessment; obtain and record vital signs and patient history
  • Administer medications, vaccines, and treatments as prescribed by the veterinarian
  • Utilize proper animal restraint techniques to ensure safety for both staff and patients during examinations and treatments
  • Place and maintain IV catheters and fluid lines
  • Monitor and care for hospitalized and post-operative patients
  • Provide compassionate nursing care throughout the patient's stay
  • Assist with end-of-life care and provide meaningful support to grieving clients

Anesthesia & Surgery Support

  • Perform pre-anesthetic patient assessments and prepare patients for anesthesia
  • Induce, maintain, and monitor patients under general anesthesia and during recovery
  • Calculate and prepare anesthetic drug protocols under veterinary supervision
  • Prepare surgical suites, instruments, and sterile packs; ensure all equipment is prepared and sterile
  • Assist veterinarians during surgical procedures
  • Assist with dental procedures including prophylaxis and dental radiography
  • Manage pain assessment and post-operative comfort

Diagnostics & Imaging

  • Perform laboratory testing including blood work, blood differentials, urinalysis, and platelet counts
  • Prepare and interpret cytology samples including skin, ear, and fecal cytology
  • Collect and process specimens for reference laboratory submission
  • Position and restrain patients for digital radiography using proper technique and safety protocols
  • Assist with diagnostic ultrasound procedures
  • Perform dermatology diagnostics including skin scrapings and ear cytology

Pharmacy & Controlled Substances

  • Fill, label, and dispense medications accurately under veterinary direction
  • Maintain DEA-compliant controlled substance logs and participate in regular inventory reconciliation
  • Manage pharmacy inventory, monitor expiration dates, and notify supervising staff of items needing to be reordered
  • Maintain cleanliness and organization within the clinic, including proper disposal of waste and sterilization of instruments

Client Education & Communication

  • Educate pet owners on proper pet care, nutrition, preventive health measures, and home care instructions
  • Communicate medical information clearly and compassionately with clients during appointments and discharge
  • Provide detailed discharge instructions and ensure clients understand post-procedure care
  • Follow up with clients post-visit regarding patient progress and outstanding questions

Team Support & Cross-Training

  • Mentor and support veterinary assistants in developing clinical skills and best practices
  • Maintain consistent clinic protocols and uphold standards of care when working with all team members
  • Cross-train in front desk operations and provide reception support as team needs require
  • Participate in team meetings, case discussions, and continuing education initiatives
  • Contribute to a positive, supportive, and growth-oriented team culture

WHAT WE'RE LOOKING FOR

  • Active Licensed Veterinary Medical Technician (LVMT) credential in the state of Tennessee required
  • Previous clinical experience as a licensed technician required
  • Knowledge of laboratory procedures and equipment used in veterinary diagnostics
  • Proficiency in veterinary terminology, animal physiology, anatomy, and aseptic techniques
  • Experience with anesthesia induction, monitoring, and recovery required
  • Experience with animal catheterization, restraint methods, and radiography required
  • Fear Free certification or strong commitment to low-stress patient handling principles
  • Excellent clinical judgment and ability to prioritize in a dynamic environment
  • Strong communication skills with both clients and colleagues
  • Team-oriented, self-motivated, and eager to grow within a new practice
  • Ability to lift up to 50 lbs and be on your feet for extended periods
  • Comfortable and willing to work around animals of all temperaments and sizes

COMPENSATION & BENEFITS

  • Starting wage: $22.00 – $26.00/hr, commensurate with experience and licensure
  • Uniform/scrub stipend after 90 days of employment
