What are the responsibilities and job description for the Boat/Yacht Detailer position at Hands on Deck Marine Maintenance?
Schedule: Monday–Friday, 8-hour shift, weekends as needed
About the Role
Hands on Deck Marine Maintenance is seeking an experienced, detail-driven Marine Detailer specializing in gelcoat restoration, compounding, and paint correction. This role works out of our air conditioned Fort Myers service bays and mobile units. (Note: This position does not involve operating vessels on the water or towing trailers).
Key Responsibilities
- Perform multi-stage compounding and high-speed rotary buffing to remove heavy chalking, oxidation, and scratches without burning gelcoat edges.
- Operate dual-action (DA) polishers to achieve swirl-free, high-gloss finishes.
- Apply protective finishes, including ceramic coatings.
- Polish marine brightwork (aluminum T-tops, towers, stainless cleats, rub rails) and restore/protect marine vinyl.
- Maintain rotary equipment, clean pads, and monitor shop compound stock.
Qualifications & Requirements
- Experience: Minimum 1 year of professional marine detailing experience (automotive paint correction specialists with strong rotary experience will be considered).
- Machine Proficiency: Proven proficiency running high-speed rotary buffers with wool and foam pads.
- Driver’s License: Valid Florida driver’s license with a clean driving record (required to drive company service vehicles to job sites).
- Water Safety: Comfortable working on docks around open water and possesses basic swimming ability.
- Physical Ability: Able to work outdoors in South Florida conditions, climb ladders/scaffolding, bend, and lift up to 50 lbs.
- High personal standard of craftsmanship and pride in delivering swirl-free work.
