Job Summary

The Risk Support Coordinator oversees residential services for individuals with intellectual and developmental disabilities (IDD) who have elevated support needs. This role coordinates day-to-day operations, ensures compliance with regulations and care plans, supports staff, and collaborates with interdisciplinary teams to promote safe, person-centered services and positive outcomes.

Essential Duties & Responsibilities

  • Monitor and coordinate supports for individuals identified as higher risk to ensure implementation of individualized support plans, behavior support strategies, and risk mitigation measures.
  • Promote a safe, stable, and therapeutic living environment by identifying, assessing, and addressing potential health, safety, behavioral, and environmental risks.
  • Ensure individuals' rights, dignity, and personal choices are protected while balancing safety and risk management needs.
  • Provide coaching and guidance to team members on trauma-informed care, de-escalation techniques, behavior intervention strategies, and emergency response procedures.
  • Review and maintain accurate documentation related to risk assessments, behavior plans, incident reporting, safety monitoring, and required regulatory records.
  • Review client referrals, assess support and risk needs, and coordinate timely follow-up to ensure appropriate placement and service delivery.
  • Monitor individual funds and personal resources to safeguard against financial risk and ensure proper accountability.
  • Support the hiring, training, coaching, and performance management of team members to ensure competency in supporting individuals with complex needs.
  • Respond to behavioral, medical, or safety-related incidents and coordinate appropriate follow-up actions to reduce future risks.
  • Provide on-call consultation and crisis support to staff during emergencies and critical incidents.
  • Ensure residential facilities, vehicles, and program operations remain compliant with organizational, state, and safety requirements.
  • Monitor trends in incidents, restrictive interventions, and behavioral concerns, recommending proactive strategies to improve outcomes and reduce risk.
  • Complete required training and maintain knowledge of best practices related to risk management, behavioral supports, crisis prevention, and regulatory compliance.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Education & Experience

  • High school diploma or equivalent.
  • 2-4 years of experience working with individuals with intellectual and developmental disabilities (IDD) in a residential, community-based, or behavioral health setting.
  • At least one year of supervisory, lead, or team leadership experience, including coaching, training, scheduling and performance management of staff.
  • Experience supporting individuals with complex behavioral, medical, or elevated-risk needs.
  • Experience training, coaching, or providing guidance to direct support professionals or residential staff.

Knowledge, Skills & Abilities

  • Knowledge of intellectual and developmental disabilities (IDD) and person-centered service delivery.
  • Knowledge of behavior support principles, crisis intervention, and de-escalation techniques.
  • Knowledge of health, safety, abuse/neglect reporting, and rights protection standards.
  • Strong leadership, coaching, and staff development skills.
  • Effective crisis management and problem-solving skills.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Strong organizational and time management skills.
  • Proficient documentation, recordkeeping, and report-writing skills.
  • Collaboration and relationship-building skills with individuals served, families, guardians, and interdisciplinary teams.
  • Ability to assess complex cases and make sound decisions under pressure.
  • Ability to balance individual rights, choice, and dignity with safety and risk management considerations.
  • Ability to train and mentor team members in behavioral supports and safety practices.
  • Ability to effectively respond to behavioral, medical, and environmental emergencies.
  • Ability to maintain confidentiality and handle sensitive information appropriately.
  • Ability to work independently while managing multiple priorities and deadlines.
  • Ability to provide on-call support and respond to service-related emergencies as needed.

Essential Functions/Physical Requirements

Good hearing and visual skills; ability to bend, stoop, sit, stand, reach, and lift up to 25 pounds.

Salary : $47,000 - $53,000
