Key Responsibilities
- Serve as the primary point of contact for general accounting inquiries.
- Process vendor payments, invoices, purchase orders, and reimbursements.
- Prepare journal entries, balance ledgers, and reconcile accounts.
- Conduct financial analysis and prepare various reports.
- Maintain inventory and budget records.
- Collaborate with the Finance or Procurement Department on vendor setup and compliance.
- Provide training on accounts receivable/payable processes to internal staff.
- Assist in grant reimbursements, state/local tax return preparation, and benefit payment issuance.
- Graduation from high school or successful completion of GED, preferably supplemented by business school or college coursework in accounting or bookkeeping.
- Requires a minimum of three (3) years of experience in general accounting, bookkeeping, and/or purchasing, which should include data entry, accounts payable/receivable, and electronic recordkeeping.
- Proficient in the use of computers with knowledge of Microsoft Office Software.
- Must complete a background check related to this position before any promotion or offer of employment.
- Must possess a valid driver’s license and must have and maintain a satisfactory driver’s record based on the City of Hampton’s criteria.
- May require some local travel and use of a personal vehicle.
- The incumbent may be considered “essential personnel” during City emergencies or at the direction of the City Manager, which may
- include long hours and unusual schedules.
