Residential Nurse (LPN)
Annual Salary: $52,278 $3,000 Sign-on Bonus
Work Schedule: Monday - Friday 7:00 am - 3:00 pm
The Hampton - Newport News Community Services Board is hiring a Residential Nurse (LPN) to support individuals served in our Intermediate Care Facilities and Waiver Homes by coordinating and delivering nursing services that promote health, stability, and safe medication practices. This role ensures timely access to medical care, maintains accurate clinical records, and provides guidance to program staff and families.
Key responsibilities include nursing assessments; development and implementation of nursing care plans; coordination of referrals, transportation, and attendance at medical appointments; medication management oversight (storage, administration, and destruction); crisis intervention as needed; consultation/education to staff on medical concerns; participation in interdisciplinary service planning; and adherence to safety, environmental, and infection control standards.
Required qualifications:
- Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN) license in Virginia
- Graduate of an accredited LPN program
- One (1) year of clinical experience including medication administration (community program, hospital, or nursing home)
- Experience in an Intermediate Care Facility, Waiver Home, or working with individuals living with developmental disabilities is preferred.
A Typical Shift
Your day begins by reviewing overnight updates and current health priorities, then checking in with clients to note changes in medical or behavioral status. You connect with physicians, pharmacies, and therapy providers to confirm orders and coordinate upcoming visits, ensuring needed supports are in place. Throughout the day you document assessments and plan-of-care updates, respond to time-sensitive concerns, and provide supportive counseling to clients and families. You also serve as a steady resource for staff-answering clinical questions, offering brief coaching, and helping the team stay aligned with safe practices. As part of the rotation, you may close out the day by preparing for on-call coverage and ensuring records are complete and ready for the next shift.
