Since 1971, the Hampton-Newport News Community Services Board has provided the highest quality of behavioral health services to residents of the cities of Hampton and Newport News, Virginia, offering a comprehensive array of programs for both children and adults living with mental illness, developmental disabilities, and/or substance use disorders.

The agency will proudly be re-opening the South Eastern Family Project (SEFP) in a newly renovated site. SEFP is licensed both as a 3.5 & 3.1 comprehensive residential treatment program for non-pregnant, pregnant, and recently postpartum women diagnosed with a substance use disorder. Gender specific substance use treatment services are provided in a healthy, stable, and secure residential environment. The program is designed to serve residents based on individual need in a person-centered treatment environment, which encourages stabilization. A holistic approach to prevention, intervention, support, and treatment is provided to foster the physical, emotional, and spiritual well-being of the women and their families.

What would you do as THE South-Eastern Family Project Manager

The Manager for the South-Eastern Family Project will oversee the client recruitment and administrative operations of a 16-bed residential treatment program. This evidence-based, co-occurring capable treatment program requires a dedicated leader to manage program staff, develop and implement budgets, and ensure effective client recruitment and utilization. This role ensures compliance with Medicaid and applicable licensure standards. The manager will embody our mission, vision, and values in everyday actions, supervising direct care to promote the physical, social, and psychological well-being of clients. Additionally, the position involves developing policies, procedures, and communication plans to operate at both the 3.5 and 3.1 levels of care while planning, supervising, and evaluating the daily work of program staff to optimize behavioral health care and support.

What matters most

To excel in the Manager position, candidates must possess a master's degree in human services, such as Social Work, Psychology, or Counseling, along with Certification as a Substance Abuse Counselor (CSAC) from the Virginia Board of Health Professions. Registration with the Board of Counseling to practice as a Qualified Mental Health Professional (QMHP) is essential. The ideal candidate will bring at least two years of supervisory experience, preferably in a residential treatment environment, demonstrating a strong ability to lead and inspire staff. A valid Virginia driver's license is required, alongside a deep understanding of the complexities surrounding substance use disorders and their effects on maternal and fetal health.

Successful applicants will exhibit strong organizational skills, effective communication abilities, and the capacity to develop and implement policies that uphold the highest standards of care in a supportive and professional atmosphere.

Knowledge and skills required for the position are:

  • Master's Degree in Human Services (such as Social Work, Psychology, or Counseling)
  • Must be a CSAC and registered QMHP
  • Two (2) years of supervisory experience
  • Experience in a residential treatment environment is a plus.
