Your role as an Adult Mental Health Support Services Counselor

Requirements for this Adult Mental Health Support Services Counselor job

To excel as a Part-Time Adult Mental Health Support Services Counselor at Hampton-Newport News Community Services Board, a combination of education, experience, and key skills is essential. Candidates must possess a Bachelor's Degree in Human Services, such as Social Work, Psychology, or Counseling, alongside a minimum of one year of experience providing behavioral health services to adults facing serious mental illness or emotional impairment. Registration with the Board of Counseling as a Qualified Mental Health Professional (QMHP) or the commitment to register as a QMHP trainee within 30 days of employment is mandatory. Successful candidates will demonstrate strong assessment and analytical skills, enabling them to evaluate client needs effectively and contribute to treatment planning. Excellent communication and interpersonal skills are crucial for building rapport with clients and collaborating with team members.

Knowledge And Skills Required For The Position Are

  • Bachelor's Degree in Human Services (Social Work, Psychology, or Counseling)
  • One (1) year of experience providing behavioral hea th services to adults with serious mental illness or emotional impairment.
  • Must be registered with the Board of Counseling to practice as a QMHP or register as a QMHP trainee within 30 days of employment.
  • Valid Virginia Driver's License
