What are the responsibilities and job description for the Council on Aging Driver - Part-time position at Hampton County Government?
Position Overview
Under the regular supervision of the Transportation Coordinator, the Van Driver provides safe, reliable, and courteous transportation services to Council on Aging participants. This role is essential in helping seniors remain active, independent, and connected to their community.
Key Responsibilities
- Transport participants safely to and from the senior center on a daily basis
- Provide transportation to medical appointments, shopping, post office, grocery stores, and other approved locations
- Assist with day trips as scheduled
- Deliver meals to homebound participants daily
- Monitor and maintain proper food temperatures during meal delivery
- Make personal contact with homebound participants at least three (3) times per week
- If a participant does not answer the door or will not be home, promptly notify the office
- Maintain a professional, respectful, and caring demeanor with all participants
- Follow all safety procedures, traffic laws, and Council on Aging policies
Qualifications
- Valid driver’s license with a clean driving record
- Must have High School Diploma or GED
- Ability to safely operate a passenger van
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills
- Dependable, punctual, and compassionate
- Ability to work independently while following instructions
- Experience working with seniors is a plus
Physical Requirements
- Ability to assist passengers entering and exiting the vehicle
- Ability to lift and carry meal containers as needed
Starting hours: 6 hours Monday - Friday
